Arsenal vs Hull City Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Arsenal welcome Hull City to the Emirates Stadium on 11/02/17 as two sides at opposite ends of the table meet in the Premier League. Arsenal’s title hopes seemingly came to an end on Saturday as they crashed to a 3-1 defeat away to Chelsea. Hull meanwhile earned a massive result in the context of their season, winning 2-0 at home to Liverpool. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Arsenal Preview

Arsenal’s hopes of ending their thirteen-year title drought took a significant and most likely definitive hit at Stamford Bridge, losing 3-1 against league leaders Chelsea who extended their lead over the Gunners to twelve points. Marcos Alonso gave the hosts the lead thirteen minutes in, as he rose above Hector Bellerin - some would say illegally so - to head in the opener. Eden Hazard then waltzed his way unchallenged through the Arsenal defence and applied a clinical finish to make it two, with Cesc Fabregas adding a third from Petr Cech’s error. Olivier Giroud scored in stoppage time but it failed to suffice any negative feeling of the Arsenal fans. With two demoralising defeats in the space of a week, Arsenal’s hopes of lifting the Premier League title come the end of the season have surely come crashing to a halt after these disappointing results. The Gunners’ 2-1 defeat to Watford failed to provoke a reaction out of the squad at Stamford Bridge as questions were once again asked of their mental and physical strength in games such as the one at Chelsea. Defensively, they have managed just one clean sheet in their previous five Premier League outings, with their defence letting them down just as much as their misfiring attack.

Hull Preview

Hull made it seven points from a possible twelve last time out, after beating Liverpool 2-0 at the KCOM Stadium. New signing Alfred N’Diaye opened the scoring on the stroke of half-time after Simon Mignolet failed to take control of a ball into the box, as the hosts shocked the out of form European contenders. Hull contained Jurgen Klopp’s men, restricting them from creating any clear-cut chances and were rewarded for their efforts in the 84th minute as another new player, Oumar Niasse on loan from Everton, sealed the win for Marco Silva’s men. This game was yet another glowing example of the impact Silva has had since arriving at the KCOM Stadium, and they have now taken a very respectable points return from three tough games. Hull faced Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool in the space of ten days and took four points from the contests, performing well in each of them. Even the defeat to Chelsea saw them produce a spirited performance and created opportunities for themselves to draw level. With this their fourth successive game against top six opposition, Hull will fancy themselves to cause an upset once again when they travel to the Emirates.

Arsenal Team News

Granit Xhaka serves the final game of his suspension and misses out, as do Santi Cazorla (achilles), Aaron Ramsey and Yaya Sanogo (both calf). Hector Bellerin will be assessed after going off early against Chelsea, although Mohamed Elneny is available once again.

Hull Team News

Curtis Davies (hamstring), Moses Odubajo (knee), Markus Henriksen (shoulder) and Will Keane (cruciate ligament) are all ruled out for the Tigers. Michael Dawson (calf) and Ryan Mason (skull fracture) are also missing although Ahmed Elmohamady is set to return from the Africa Cup of Nations.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Given the current state of affairs at the Emirates it’s difficult to predict which Arsenal team will show up at the weekend. Hull have looked much improved as of late and it’s clear to see Marco Silva has given this side a real lift. However, now that Arsenal are out of the title race, the pressure is off their shoulders to a certain extent and for that reason I’m expecting them to turn up and put in a performance here.
