Arsenal Preview

From the hysteria surrounding transfer deadline day, it’s easy to forget Arsenal come into this game off the back of a damning defeat, losing 3-1 to Swansea at the Liberty Stadium. Mesut Ozil’s superb pass found Nacho Monreal to put Arsenal in front, but the lead lasted just a minute as Sam Clucas pulled Swansea level. Petr Cech’s woeful error then allowed Jordan Ayew to put Swansea ahead from close range, before Clucas made the game safe five minutes from time. Somehow, though, attention was quickly turned away from the loss at the Liberty Stadium just a day later, following the signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund and Ozil to a new three-and-a-half year contract. Aubameyang is likely to feature at some point this weekend and both he and Henrikh Mkhitaryan will be collectively looking to fill the void of the departed Alexis Sanchez. Now winning only one of their previous five Premier League games, Arsenal are a significant eight points behind Liverpool in 4th at this moment in time, with it once again being their away form that is continuously letting them down. With the gap being the size it is, the signings of Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang may well have come too late to save Arsenal’s fading Champions League hopes.

Arsenal Team News

Santi Cazorla (achilles) and Danny Welbeck (groin) are both absent for the Gunners.

Everton Preview

Relief was the overriding emotion at Goodison Park on Wednesday night after Everton finally picked up a much-needed three points with a 2-1 victory over Leicester City. New signing Theo Walcott impressed on the wing, showing an element of pace and direct play previously missing and scored the opening goal from close range after 25 minutes. Walcott then reacted quickest in the box to tap in Michael Keane’s looping header, and although Jamie Vardy pulled one back from the penalty spot, as well as the Foxes then hitting the woodwork three times, Everton narrowly held on to the three points. Now 9th in the table and eight points clear of the relegation zone, the Toffees finally ended their six-match wait for a win in the Premier League and the positives kept coming on Wednesday night. Seamus Coleman made his awaited return from injury against the Foxes, giving the team a much-needed boost at the back to go with the deadline day loan signing of Eliaquim Mangala. During his short time at Goodison Park, Sam Allardyce has thus far been unable to turn around the team’s fortunes away from home, winning only one of their last 20 league games on the road.

Everton Team News

Maarten Stekelenburg (groin), Ramiro Funes Mori (knee), Leighton Baines (calf) and James McCarthy (broken leg).
