Arsenal vs Crystal Palace Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Arsenal face Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium on 20/01/18 as the hosts look to make a much-needed return to form. Arsenal lost 2-1 at Bournemouth last weekend, while Crystal Palace secured a 1-0 victory at home to Burnley. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Given their current form, Arsenal may not jump out as a banker for punter’s bets this weekend, but it is easy to forget how strong their form at the Emirates is. With that in mind, I’m expecting the Gunners to get a much-needed three points here.

Arsenal Preview

Arsenal simply can’t buy a win at this moment in time, after going down 2-1 to Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium despite leading with 20 minutes to go. In a game of ultimately low quality, Arsenal took the lead after 52 minutes when Hector Bellerin tucked in the opener from Alex Iwobi’s slide rule pass. From there, many would’ve expected them to close the deal, but Callum Wilson and Jordon Ibe capitalised on hesitant Arsenal defending to swing the game on its head in an incredible four-minute spell for the home side. Defeat to the Cherries now leaves Arsenal with no wins in their last five games in all competitions, drawing three and losing two, with this being the penultimate game before they face Chelsea in the second leg of their EFL Cup semi-final. Despite winning only one of their last four Premier League games at the Emirates, Arsenal had won 12 home league games in a row prior to this most recent slump. It should also be said the three games they have failed to win during this recent run have been against Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea, showing how they’ve struggled to get one over the teams in Champions League contention.

Arsenal Team News

Nacho Monreal (ankle), Santi Cazorla (achilles) and Olivier Giroud (hamstring) are both ruled out, while Laurent Koscielny (achilles) and Mesut Ozil (knee) face fitness tests.

Crystal Palace Preview

Even the most optimistic of Crystal Palace fans would’ve struggled to imagine after the first seven games of the season that, 16 games later, their team would be 12th in the Premier League table, five points clear of the relegation zone. However, that is the situation Roy Hodgson has guided his side to, after their 1-0 win at home to Burnley continued their excellent form in the Premier League. Bakary Sako scored the only goal of the game in the 21st minute - meaning the winger has now scored more Premier League goals this season than he has in each of his previous two campaigns with the Eagles. Sako is a prime example of how Hodgson is currently managing to get the maximum out of this Palace squad at present, certainly more so than his predecessor. Impressively, Palace have lost just one of their previous 12 games in the Premier League, with that defeat coming in close circumstances to, ironically, this weekend’s opponents Arsenal. It was 3-2 on that occasion at Selhurst Park, but Palace will take encouragement from the fact they were still able to panic Arsenal’s backline frequently in the contest.

Crystal Palace Team News

Joel Ward (groin), Mamadou Sakho (calf), Scott Dann, Jason Puncheon (both cruciate ligament), Jeffrey Schlupp (knee) and Andros Townsend (ankle) are all ruled out. Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Connor Wickham are unlikely to return in time for this weekend.
