Betting Tips and Predictions

In a one off game such as this, form tends to go out of the window, though both looked back to their best last time out. That said, I’m expecting Chelsea to come out on top, given the added star power available to the Blues.

Arsenal Preview

Life without Alexis Sanchez at Arsenal commenced in style at the weekend after the Gunners thrashed Crystal Palace 4-1 at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday following an incredible opening 22 minutes. Nacho Monreal put Arsenal ahead after just 6 minutes, before the Spaniard then set up Alex Iwobi and Laurent Koscielny to leave the team 3-0 up inside the first quarter of an hour. Alexandre Lacazette ended his goal drought by scoring Arsenal’s fourth of the first half, effectively rendering the remaining 70 minutes or so as redundant, although Luka Milivojevic grabbed a consolation late in the second half. Having gone five without a win before the visit of Roy Hodgson’s side, this was a much-needed, morale-boosting win for Arsenal, with the timing perfect ahead of this huge clash. Both they and Chelsea have met three times this season, with each occasion ending in a draw, meaning something’s got to give this time around. The League Cup remains the solitary missing domestic crown from Arsene Wenger’s time with the Gunners, losing twice in the final to date, one of which came to Chelsea in 2007. Losing just once at home in all competitions since April 2017, Arsenal come into this game with a terrific record at the Emirates and would back themselves to beat any side at home.

Arsenal Team News

Santi Cazorla (achilles) and Olivier Giroud (hamstring) are both missing for the Gunners.

Chelsea Preview

Just like their opponents on Wednesday evening, Chelsea secured an emphatic three points at the weekend, having dismantled Brighton and Hove Albion with a 4-0 victory at the Amex Stadium. The Premier League champions wasted little time in securing a two-goal advantage, taking just six minutes to do so through Eden Hazard and Willian. Hazard struck once again towards the end of the second half after Chelsea escaped some potential penalty scares, as Victor Moses added a fourth in the closing stages of the encounter. Like Arsenal, Chelsea had gone five games without a win before scoring four at the weekend in their win, drawing five on the bounce in 90 minutes in all competitions. However, for as much as Arsenal boast an impressive home record, Chelsea are no mugs away from home, losing just one of their last nine on the road and have previous in producing big performances against Arsenal under pressure. While Didier Drogba may not be available to them on Wednesday evening, they do have Hazard, who scored a famous solo effort against the Gunners last season, and his ability to break with pace will be vital to Chelsea’s chances of success and an effective game plan.

Chelsea Team News

Chelsea could be without up to five first-team faces, with Thibaut Courtois and Danny Drinkwater both doubtful with ankle problems, while Andreas Christensen (head), Gary Cahill and Cesc Fabregas (hamstring) also struggling.
