Apollon Limassol vs Aberdeen Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Apollon Limassol will be aiming to overturn a one-goal deficit when they welcome Aberdeen at the AEK Arena - George Karapatakis on Thursday afternoon for the second leg of their Europa League third qualifying round. Aberdeen took the lead after just 4 minutes through Ryan Christie, but Apollon levelled the game at the exact hour mark through Jander. The visitors’ midfielder Esteban Sachetti saw red in the 71st minute and Aberdeen speculated that by scoring the winner seven minutes later through Graeme Shinnie. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Aberdeen are one step away from the play-offs but first, they have to secure a positive result here. On the flip side, Apollon have been a strong side on home soil over the past few months and they also hold a solid home record in the Europa League. I’m backing both sides to get on the scoresheet as Aberdeen have scored at least once in each of their last ten away games across all competitions, while Apollon netted at least two goals in four of their last five European home games.

Apollon Limassol Preview

Apollon Limassol have endured a mixed run of form over the past month, losing four and winning three of their last seven games across all competitions. They have lost three of their four friendlies during their pre-season campaign, but bounced back with two consecutive wins over Zaria Balti in the previous Europa League qualifying round. They were very close to securing a positive result in Scotland last week, but have conceded the second goal after Esteban Sachetti saw red with just 20 minutes to go. This means that they are now obliged to score at least once in front of their own fans in order to qualify further in the competition. The good news is that Apollon have enjoyed an incredible home form over the past six months, winning twelve of their last 15 games across all competitions, including a 3-0 win over Zaria Balti in the previous qualifying round. Furthermore, Apollon’s home record in the Europa League over the past two years has been decent, winning three and drawing twice in their last five games while scoring at least two goals in four of these. In addition, Apollon have twice reached group stage since Aberdeen’s sole appearance in 2007/08.

Apollon Limassol Team News

Esteban Sachetti is missing through suspension after receiving two yellow cards in the first leg of this tie.

Aberdeen Preview

On the contrary, Aberdeen come into this tie on the back of a six-game undefeated streak across all competitions, winning five and drawing once in this term. They looked incredibly strong in front of goal during this run, scoring at least two goals in five of their last six games. However, their back line leaves a little to be desired as they have only kept two clean sheets in their last ten away games across all competitions. Away from home, Aberdeen have won ten of their last eleven away games across all competitions, including a 0-2 victory Siroki Brijeg in the previous qualifying round. Furthermore, the Dandies have scored at least once in each of their last eleven away games. However, they have struggled a bit in their Europa League away fixtures over the past three years, winning just three in the last eight games. Last year, Aberdeen were knocked out from this stage of the competition following a narrow 2-1 aggregate loss at the hands of the Croatian side Maribor. Ryan Christie seems to be in fine shape at the moment as he is the team’s topscorer throughout the qualifiers with two goals under his belt.

Aberdeen Team News

Meanwhile, Aberdeen have no fresh injury concerns ahead of this trip.
