APOEL Nicosia vs Real Madrid Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Real Madrid will look to seal their place in the Champions League round of 16 when they travel to the Neo GSP to take on APOEL Nicosia on Tuesday night in the penultimate round of the group H. APOEL Nicosia managed a creditable 1-1 away draw at Borussia Dortmund last time out, with Mickael Pote scoring the equalizer soon after the break. On the flip side, Real Madrid suffered a disappointing 3-1 defeat on the road at Tottenham Hotspur, with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring their only goal with just ten minutes to go. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news, match stats and odds all in our SBAT preview. Feel free to visit our Bet of the day page to check our best daily tips.

Betting Predictions and Tips

It’s very difficult to look past Real Madrid despite they have been struggling with form recently. I don’t know if they are capable of scoring three goals again as they did in the reverse fixture, but I think they can keep another clean sheet here.

APOEL Nicosia Preview

APOEL Nicosia kicked off this Champions League group stage campaign with two consecutive 3-0 defeats against Real Madrid and Tottenham, but they did well to secure two successive 1-1 draws against Borussia Dortmund in their most recent group fixtures. They are still rock bottom of the group H table tied on two points with the third-placed Dortmund, already five points of the second-placed and their Tuesday’s opponents Real Madrid. Scoring goals has been their main issue throughout this campaign as they only netted two goals in four group fixtures. The Cypriots haven’t won a single match in the Champions League, group stage to final, since winning 1-0 over Lyon in the round of 16 on March 2012. However, their recent home form has been better as they are undefeated in the last three competitive fixtures, conceding just once in the process. Head-to-head, APOEL Nicosia have lost all their three meetings with Real Madrid in the Champions League, scoring just two goals while conceding eleven. APOEL are still hoping for a place in the Europa League knockout stages, but they have an impossible task when they travel to Madrid on Tuesday.

APOEL Nicosia Team News

Roberto Lago and Facundo Bertoglio are both doubts, but Boy Waterman is out through an arm injury.

Real Madrid Preview

Real Madrid’s shocking run of form continued at the weekend as they only managed a nil-nil away draw at their city rivals Atletico Madrid in La Liga at the weekend. Their recent form has seen Los Blancos win just once in their last four competitive fixtures. During this run, Real Madrid lost 3-1 on the road at Tottenham Hotspurs last time out in the Champions League, leaving them second in the group H table with seven points to their name after four rounds. Their away record in the Champions League over the past few years reads three defeats, seven wins and four draws in their last 14 away fixtures. However, their recent away form has been worrying as they are winless in the last three competitive games, scoring just two goals in the process. Zinedine Zidane’s men should feel confident ahead of this tie though as they won 3-1 in Madrid in the reverse fixture. Furthermore, they have never failed to progress to the round of 16 in their 21 previous participations in the Champions League. In addition, it has to be said that Madrid also finished second in their Champions League group last season, but they still managed to win the trophy following their 4-1 victory over Juventus in the Final.

Real Madrid Team News

Mateo Kovacic and Luca Zidane are both doubts, while Gareth Bale and Sergio Ramos are both missing through injury. The good news is that Keylor Navas is back in training following his groin injury.
