APOEL Nicosia vs Borussia Dortmund Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Borussia Dortmund are still searching for their first victory of their Champions League group H campaign when they travel to the Neo GSP Stadium to take on APOEL Nicosia on Tuesday night. APOEL Nicosia suffered a 0-3 home loss at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur last time out in the Champions League, with Harry Kane scoring a hat-trick for the visitors. Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund lost 1-3 at home at the hands of Real Madrid, with their consolation goal being scored by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news, match stats and odds all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Borussia Dortmund can’t be written off despite their disappointing run throughout this Champions League campaign. They definitely have more quality within their ranks than APOEL and these two meetings with the Cypriots are crucial. They have conceded plenty of goals of late, but they have also scored a couple in this term, so I’m backing them to find the back of the net at least twice here as APOEL allowed six goals in the opening two games.

APOEL Nicosia Preview

APOEL Nicosia were definitely the outsiders of this difficult group with the likes of Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Tottenham Hotspur. They kicked off the campaign as many expected with back-to-back 3-0 defeats at the hands of Real Madrid and Tottenham. This means that APOEL haven’t won a game in the Champions League, group stage to the final, since winning 1-0 over Lyon on March 2012. This is their 4th group stage appearances and it’s really tough seeing them secure at least the third spot in this group, which can send them into the Europa League first knockout stage. APOEL’s best performance in the competitions was in the 2014/15 season when they managed to reach the quarter-finals all the way from second qualifying round. On home soil, APOEL were on a seven-game unbeaten streak in the Champions League prior to their 0-3 loss at the hands of Tottenham last time out. The bad news is that the Cypriots have lost seven of their eight home meetings with German opponents. The only good thing is that APOEL come into this tie on the back of two consecutive wins in the Cypriot First Division, conceding none in this term. They only sit 4th in the First Division table tied on ten points with other three teams and already five points behind the current leaders Anorthosis, although they have two games in hand.

APOEL Nicosia Team News

Georgios Efrem is the only doubtful player for APOEL Nicosia ahead of this game.

Borussia Dortmund Preview

Borussia Dortmund were considered to be among the favourites to top this group as they did in the previous Champions League campaign when they were drawn in a group with Real Madrid. However, BVB looked poor in the opening two fixtures of this Champions League group H campaign as they suffered back-to-back defeats at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid. Similar to their Tuesday’s opponents, BVB have also conceded six goals in two games, although they managed to find the back in two occasions while APOEL are yet to score. Dortmund went on the International break on the back of a narrow 1-2 victory at Augsburg, but they suffered a disappointing 2-3 home loss at the hands of RB Leipzig at the weekend. They had a good opportunity to increase the gap at the top of the Bundesliga table, but they are now just two points clear of the reigning champions Bayern Munich. This is BVB’s 12th appearance in the Champions League group stages and they managed to reach the knockout stage of the competition on their last four Champions League campaigns. BVB will take on APOEL Nicosia in their upcoming two Champions League fixtures so they need to collect six points in order to maintain their qualifying hopes alive. The bad news is that Dortmund have only won two of their last eight away games in the Champions League and have conceded at least once in seven of these. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is having another great season at the moment and he is the player to watch here, as he is currently the Bundesliga’s topscorer with ten goals under his belt in his eight league appearances.

Borussia Dortmund Team News

Raphael Guerreiro and Sebastian Rode are both doubts, but Marco Reus, Lukasz Piszczek and Eric Durm are still missing through injury. The good news is that Andre Schurrle and Marcel Schmelzer are both back in training.
