Anderlecht vs Paris Saint Germain Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Paris Saint Germain will be aiming to book their place in the first knockout stage of this Champions League campaign when they travel to the Stade Constant Vanden Stock to take on Anderlecht on Wednesday night. Anderlecht suffered a disappointing 0-3 home loss to Celtic last time out in group B, despite the fact Nicolas Frutos’ men had more goalscoring opportunities than the visitors. On the contrary, Paris Saint Germain managed an impressive 3-0 home win over Bayern Munich thanks to goals from Dani Alves, Edinson Cavani and Neymar. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news, match stats and odds all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

PSG have been scoring goals for fun this season and I’m expecting another goal fest here against an Anderlecht team who conceded six goals in their two Champions League fixtures so far and another three against Mechelen in the Jupiler League at the weekend. In addition, PSG managed a 0-5 away victory in their sole trip to Anderlecht back in 2013 and they had a weaker squad than now.

Anderlecht Preview

Anderlecht have enjoyed a good run of form recently, but unfortunately, their start to this Champions League group stage campaign have been terrible. They suffered back-to-back 3-0 defeats at the hands of Bayern Munich and Celtic in the opening two rounds and are now facing one of the strongest teams in Europe in the shape of Paris Saint Germain. The Belgians were never likely to challenge for the top two spots in this group, but their 0-3 home loss to Celtic last time out has practically ended their chances of finishing third in the race for Europa League qualification. Apart from that defeat, Anderlecht have won their most recent four domestic fixtures, including a 3-4 away victory at KV Mechelen in the Jupiler League at the weekend. Their recent home record in the Champions League hasn’t been great as they have won just one of their last eight home fixtures in the competition. In addition, Anderlecht are winless in their last four games at home against Ligue 1 opponents. However, their recent home form across all competitions have seen them win six of their last eight competitive fixtures. Head-to-head, Anderlecht are winless in their three meetings with PSG across all competitions, although two of these have ended in 1-1 draws.

Anderlecht Team News

Emmanuel Sowah Adjei and Uros Spajic are both doubts, but Andy Najar is still missing through a hamstring injury.

Paris Saint Germain Preview

Paris Saint Germain have had an impressive start to this 2017/18 competitive season, winning eleven and drawing once in their twelve official fixtures. During this run of form, Les Parisiens beat Celtic and Bayern Munich in the opening two games of their Champions League group B campaign, scoring eight goals and conceding none in this term. They sit at the top of the group B table with six points under their belts, three points clear of Bayern Munich and Celtic. However, PSG showed some signs of weakness of late, drawing nil-nil against Montpellier in Ligue 1 a month ago, and beating Dijon 1-2 at the weekend thanks to a stoppage-time goal from Thomas Meunier. Domestically, Les Parisiens sit comfortably at the top of the Ligue 1 table with 25 points to their name after nine games, six points clear of the second-placed Monaco. Their away record in the Champions League has seen them win six of their last ten games, losing three in the process. PSG managed to reach the quarter-finals of the competition in four consecutive seasons between 2013 and 2016, while they were on the wrong end of the biggest comeback in Champions League history in last term’s round of 16. Edinson Cavani and Neymar have been in fantastic shape in this early part of the season, as the pair bagged 19 goals between them already.

Paris Saint Germain Team News

Lavyin Kurzawa, Marco Verratti, Thiago Motta and Thiago Silva are all doubts ahead of this trip.
