Anderlecht vs Celtic Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Anderlecht host Celtic at the Stade Constant Vanden Stock on 27/09/17 in a Champions League game both teams will feel they have to win. Anderlecht were 2-1 winners away to Waasland-Beveren at the weekend, while Celtic took great joy in defeating Old Firm rivals Rangers 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Betting Tips and Predictions

These two sides look pretty evenly matched, although Anderlecht have had a disappointing start to their season overall. Both will know just how important this game is but I’m backing Celtic to get a positive result.

Anderlecht saw over 1.5 goals in 8 out of their last 10 games played

Anderlecht Preview

Anderlecht left it late to pick up just their third victory of the Belgian First Division season away to fellow mid-table side Waasland-Beveren. Both teams were level on points heading into this meeting and it was the home side who took the lead inside seven minutes, as Isaac Thelin opened the scoring for Waasland. Despite that, Anderlecht’s response was strong in the closing minutes, as midfielder Nicolae Stanciu equalised before the Romanian then set up defender Uro Spaji for the winning goal. Despite winning the Belgian league title last season, they seem to be especially missing the spark of captain Youri Tielemans in midfield, who was sold to Monaco for £22m in the summer. Their Champions League campaign started in similarly frustrating fashion after losing 3-0 away to Bayern Munich, with Europa League qualification more realistic for both they and Celtic, with Paris Saint-Germain also occupying this group. Nicolas Frutos’ side enter this fixture with just three wins from their previous eight matches in all competitions and will expect far better of themselves heading into the closing weeks of the season.

Anderlecht Team News

Sven Kums is suspended following his red card away to Bayern Munich, while Andy Najar (knee) is ruled out.

Celtic Preview

Celtic once again asserted their dominance over Glasgow rivals Rangers on Saturday afternoon after winning 2-0 at Ibrox to inflict yet more misery in this fixture on Gers supporters. Tom Rogic scored the opener for Brendan Rodgers’ side in the first five minutes of the second half, with this being a far more competitive contest than some of the Old Firm derbies of recent times. Leigh Griffiths then doubled their lead midway through the second half, as Celtic maintained their two-point lead over Aberdeen at the top of the Scottish Premiership table. With that result, Celtic have now won each of their last three matches by an aggregate scoreline of 10-0, showing great character to bounce back from the heavy 5-0 defeat suffered at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain. Celtic surprised some last season away from home in the Champions League - other than their thrashing at Barcelona - after holding both Borussia Monchengladbach and Manchester City to 1-1 draws and won twice on the road during the qualification rounds of the competition. Getting a positive result here would set them up well with a chance of securing European Football at Parkhead post-Christmas.

Celtic Team News

Kouassi Eboue (ankle) is missing once again for Celtic, although Erik Sviatchenko (knee) could be thrown back in for this crucial contest.
