Alaves vs Sevilla Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Deportivo Alaves suffered an anticipated away defeat, as Athletic Bilbao picked up a 2-0 win at the San Mames. Etxeita’s deflected effort looped into the goal after eight minutes, while Athletic Bilbao were able to double their advantage in the second-half when Aduriz converted from the spot. New Sevilla manager Vincenzo Montella kicked off his La Liga reign with a 5-3 loss against Real Betis. This goal fest witnessed five different scorers from Real Betis – Fabian Ruiz, Zouhair Feddal, Riza Durmisi, Sergio Leon, and Christian Tello. Wissam Ben Yedder, Simon Kjaer, and Clement Lenglet were the scorers from Sevilla, who did progress past Cadiz in the Copa del Rey after a 4-1 win on aggregate.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Deportivo Alaves have been able to get four consecutive home wins in all competitions, as the club clearly are trying to make the Mendizorrotza as a fortress in the efforts to avoid relegation. The Sevilla outfit had a poor start under Vincenzo Montella. Despite positive results in the Copa del Rey, it looks highly unlikely that Sevilla will be able to get a victory. Sevilla’s last trip to the Mendizorrotza saw them only manage a draw. I would go with the same option.

There is likely to be a conscious effort from Sevilla in order to keep the goals at a bare minimum. Deportivo Alaves already have a strong defensive unit and have kept four consecutive clean sheet at home. I would choose under 2.5 goals in the game.

Alaves Preview

Deportivo Alaves have been making significant strides over the last few weeks. The Copa del Rey may be seen as a distraction by some, but manager Abelardo may be quite happy with the team keeping the momentum and progressing into the next round. Even though Alaves have been able to lift themselves away from the bottom with three wins in the last five games, the club continue to have the worst defensive record in the league. Alaves have scored only 13 goals – a record only matched by Malaga – even after 18 games. Ibai Gomez has contributed four of those goals to take a position as their top scorer.

Alaves Team News

Burgui (groin), Hector Hernandez Ortega (knee), and Carlos Martin Vigaray (knee) are the players unavailable for Deportivo Alaves.

Sevilla Preview

Sevilla got off to the worst possible league start under Vincenzo Montella after being involved in a rollercoaster of a defeat. Guilherme Arana is Sevilla’s major signing of the 2018 January transfer window, as he has made a €11 million switch from Corinthians. Stopping the defensive rot will be the key for Montreal, as this is a Sevilla outfit that has conceded 15 goals in the last six matches. Even prior to the game against Real Betis, there were concerns about the club’s defensive record. Wissam Ben Yedder slowly seems to be hitting his top form and the striker is now up to five for the campaign.

Sevilla Team News

Nicolas Pareja (groin), Daniel Carrico (thigh), José Mena Rodriguez (groin), Carlos Fernandez Luna (ankle), and Marc Gual (ankle) are the players unavailable for Sevilla.
