Alaves vs Athletic Bilbao Match Prediction

By Gary Gillles

Deportivo Alaves extended their unbeaten run to 4 games following a 4-1 win over Real Betis. Ruben Pardo scored courtesy of a deflection in the 12th minute. Alaves came out storming in the second half and scored three goals in the space of 18 minutes through Nenad Krsticic, Ruben Sobrino, and Christian Santos. A late goal from Aleksandar Katai confirmed the impressive win. Athletic Bilbao secured a fourth consecutive victory after beating Celta de Vigo 3-0 at the Balaidos. Raul Garcia scored either side of the break to give a commanding 2-0 advantage for Athletic Bilbao, and Mikel Rico added a late third in the 83rd minute.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Deportivo Alaves have suffered just one defeat in the last six home matches. Even this defeat came during a rough patch of form. After struggling with away form for much of the campaign, Athletic Bilbao have managed four wins in the last five away games. Incredibly, just two of their 17 away games have finished as a stalemate. Atletico will come into the match as the hungrier team, as Europa League qualification is at stake. I would back Athletic Bilbao for a win.

Just one of the last five home games for Deportivo Alaves has produced over 2.5 goals. Athletic Bilbao’s recent games have seen plenty of goals, but I would back Alaves’ strong defence to hold out better. I would back this game to witness under 2.5 goals.

Alaves Preview

Deportivo Alaves managed to enter into the La Liga top-10 courtesy of an impressive run of form in the last few weeks. While the club may have failed to win games against Las Palmas and Eibar, impressive wins over Villarreal and Real Betis have helped them leapfrog Celta de Vigo. The club will be setting sights on Espanyol, who are only two points away, in the ninth place. The momentum will also be a key element for the club heading into the 2017 Copa del Rey final against Barcelona at the end of the season. Alaves top scorer Deyverson has six league goals, but he has not scored in his last six games.

Alaves Team News

Einar Galilea (cruciate ligament), Carlos Martin (hamstring), Victor Laguardia (knee) are the players unavailable for Deportivo La Coruna

Athletic Bilbao Preview

Athletic Bilbao are showing no signs of losing their grip on the sixth place, which can provide qualification to the Europa League. The club have been quite impressive since the international break, and they have managed six wins in the last seven games. For much of the campaign, the club were heavily reliant on home form in order to sustain a top 10 place. Now, Athletic Bilbao have won four out of the last five games on the road. Aduriz and Raul Garcia have been key players for the club in the second half of the campaign

Athletic Bilbao Team News

Gorka Elustondo (physical discomfort) is the only injury concern for Ernesto Valverde.
