Ajax vs Vitesse Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Ajax and Vitesse will be facing each other at the Amsterdam ArenA on Sunday at lunchtime, with both teams looking to close the gap at the top of the Eredivisie table. Ajax threw away a one-goal lead following Joel Veltman’s early strike to register only a 1-1 away draw at ADO Den Haag. Vitesse have also been held to a 1-1 draw at home by the newcomers Venlo last time out, despite the fact they had the lead until the 90th minute following a second-half goal from Tim Matavz. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news, match stats and odds all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips - Match Odds

Although these two sides are tied on ten points in the standings, Ajax looked much better than Vitesse recently. They are undefeated in the last four games across all competitions and have scored three goals in each of the last two home league fixtures. In addition, Ajax have won their last three home Eredivisie meetings with Vitesse, conceding just once in the process. Ajax should be able to win, but I can’t see them scoring too many goals in this one.

Betting Prediction: Ajax to win and Under 3.5 goals at odds 13/10 with Bet365

Ajax v Vitesse - Correct score betting tips and odds

The previous three meetings between these two sides have ended with the 1-0 score, but I think that we will see a different goal line in this one. Ajax have scored three goals in each of their two home games in the Eredivisie, while Vitesse did the same thing in their two league trips so far this season.

Our Correct Score prediction: Ajax to win 2-1 at odds 8/1 with Bet365

Ajax v Vitesse - Total Goals predictions and odds

Despite the fact that four of the last five meetings between these two sides have seen just one goal scored, I’m expecting three goals in this one given the fact that both sides have been involved in high-scoring affairs of late. Ajax have scored six goals at home so far this season, while Vitesse have also netted six on the road.

Our Total Goals prediction: Over 2.5 goals at odds 19/40

Ajax saw over 1.5 goals in 8 out of their last 10 games played

Vitesse scored over 2.5 goals in 5 out of their last 10 games played

Ajax Preview

Ajax had a shaky start to their 2017/18 competitive season, but manager Marcel Keizer managed to steady the ship recently and now the team enter the fray on the back of a four-game unbeaten streak across all competitions. The Amsterdammers extended their unbeaten streak in the Eredivisie to four games with their 1-1 draw at ADO Den Haag last weekend and followed this up with a comfortable 1-5 victory over Scheveningen in the KNVB Beker Cup in midweek. However, Ajax find themselves only in 6th position in the Eredivisie table tied on ten points with PEC Zwolle and Vitesse, two points behind the joint leaders AZ Alkmaar, PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord. The Amsterdammers looked solid at both ends of the field throughout this early part of the season, scoring ten goals and conceding just four in five rounds. Furthermore, Ajax can count on their recent home form ahead of this tie as they have picked up wins over FC Groningen and PEC Zwolle in their both home games in the Eredivisie so far this season. In addition, Ajax have won their last three home meetings with Vitesse in the Eredivisie, conceding just once in the process. Hakim Ziyech and the summer signing Klaas-Jan Huntelaar have both been in fine shape in this early part of the season, as the pair bagged six goals and three assists between them.

Ajax Team News

Daley Sinkgraven, Mateusz Gorski, Norbert Alblas and Abdelhak Nouri are all doubts ahead of this game.

Vitesse Preview

Vitesse have struggled for consistency recently, but overall they had a decent start to the new Eredivisie campaign. They have only lost once in five league fixtures so far this season, but their recent form hasn’t been great and this is due to the fact that they have been involved in several competitions. They have lost 2-3 at home against Lazio in the Europa League last week and then they were held to a 1-1 home draw by the newly-promoted Venlo in the Eredivisie at the weekend. Furthermore, the Arnhem club suffered a humiliating penalty-shootout defeat at the hands of the amateurs Swift in the KNVB Beker Cup in midweek. The only good news is that Vitesse have picked up victories in their two league trips in this early part of the season, scoring three goals in each of these. The bad thing is that Vitesse have suffered defeats in their last two visits to the Amsterdam ArenA, scoring none in the process. Head-to-head, Vitesse are winless in the last four meetings with Ajax in the Eredivisie since a 1-0 victory back in February 2015. Tim Matavz has enjoyed an excellent start to the season as he is currently the club’s topscorer with five goals in his five league appearances.

Vitesse Team News

Mukhtar Ali and Arnold Kruiswijk are both doubts ahead of this trip.
