Ajax vs Go Ahead Eagles Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Ajax will be aiming to close the gap at the top of the Eredivisie table when they welcome Go Ahead Eagles at the Amsterdam ArenA on Sunday at lunchtime. Ajax suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat on the road at their eternal rivals PSV Eindhoven last time out, despite the fact that they had a better ball possession than the hosts. Meanwhile, Go Ahead Eagles were beaten 2-3 at home by FC Groningen, although they came back from behind twice thanks to goals from Sam Hendriks and Darren Maatsen. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Ajax should have no problems in picking up a victory here as they are currently on an eleven-game winning streak across all competitions at home, scoring at least two goals in ten of these. On the contrary, the Eagles have only collected ten points from their 16 league trips so far this season. I’m backing Ajax to grab all three points here, but for better value, I’m also expecting them to score a couple of goals.

Ajax Preview

Ajax’s 15-game unbeaten streak in the Eredivisie ended last weekend as they were beaten 1-0 on the road at PSV Eindhoven. This means that the Amsterdammers are now four points of the current leaders Feyenoord, and their title hopes will end this weekend if the Rotterdammers will win their game against Excelsior. However, Ajax come into this clash with renewed confidence following their excellent 4-1 home victory over Lyon in midweek in the first leg of their Europa League Semi-finals tie. The Amsterdammers have been very well-organized at both ends of the field throughout this Eredivisie campaign, scoring 72 goals and conceding just 22 in 32 league fixtures. Kasper Dolberg is leading the club’s goalscoring charts with 14 goals under his belt, while Davy Klaassen, Bertrand Traore and Hakim Ziyech have bagged 31 goals and 21 assists between them. This should be a routine win for Ajax, as they are currently on an eleven-game winning streak across all competitions at home, scoring at least two goals in ten of these. In addition, Ajax have won their both home meetings with Go Ahead Eagles in the Eredivisie, scoring nine goals while conceding just once in this term.

Go Ahead Eagles Preview

On the other hand, Go Ahead Eagles were beaten 2-3 at home by FC Groningen to extend their losing streak in the Eredivisie to four games. Their back line has been awful in this term, as they have allowed 17 goals in the last four league outings. Overall, the Eagles have only won once in their last ten games in the Eredivisie. Actually, conceding has been G.A. Eagles’ main issue throughout the season as they hold the worst defensive record in the division with 66 goals conceded in 32 rounds. They are rock bottom of the league table with just 23 points to their name after 32 league fixtures and are destined to go down into the Eerste Divisie. Their away form has also been a problem this season as the Eagles have only collected ten points from their 16 league trips. They are currently on a two-game losing streak on the road, conceding ten goals and scoring none in the process. Sam Hendriks is a player to watch for the Eagles, as the 22-year-old striker is currently leading the club’s goalscoring charts with eight goals in his 24 league appearances.
