AFC Bournemouth vs Watford Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Bournemouth host Watford at the Vitality Stadium on 19/08/17 as both sides look to pick up their first three points of the season in the Premier League. Bournemouth were beaten 1-0 away to West Brom on the opening day of the season, as Watford rallied to secure a late point from Liverpool in a 3-3 draw. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Bournemouth struggled to break down a strong, resolute West Brom side last weekend but should have more success against a Watford side who were carved open by Liverpool. I can see goals in this game and expect the home side to come out on top.

AFC Bournemouth Preview

Despite significant domination of possession, Bournemouth failed to create much in the way of chances as they fell to a 1-0 loss at the hands of West Brom. The Baggies, who themselves mustered just four attempts on target, scored the game’s only goal through debutant Ahmed Hegazi, as the Egyptian headed home Chris Brunt’s delivery for the game’s only goal. Eddie Howe made the surprising decision to leave Jermain Defoe on the bench for the season opener, preferring to instead start with Benik Afobe and Josh King in attack, although Asmir Begovic and Nathan Ake both featured from kick-off. The Cherries did incredibly well to finish 9th in the Premier League last season and another top-ten finish will be the target for them this time around, especially with the new additions to the squad. Howe remains one of the brightest managerial prospects in the country and his side ended their last campaign at home in terrific form, posting four wins in six games, with Chelsea the only team to inflict defeat on them from March onwards. After seeing what Liverpool were able to do to Watford, Bournemouth will fancy their chances of bagging some goals this time out.

AFC Bournemouth Team News

Junior Stanislas (hernia) and Callum Wilson (knee) are still missing for the Cherries through injury. Jermain Defoe will hope to start after seeing strikers Benik Afobe and Josh King fail to score at West Brom.

Watford Preview

If Watford’s opening day performance is anything to go by then their supporters could be in for a rollercoaster ride this season - a welcome change from the tediousness of the Walter Mazzarri era. Stefano Okaka and Abdoulaye Doucoure scored either side of a Sadio Mane effort to give Watford a 2-1 lead heading into the break. Despite Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah netting for the Reds, Miguel Britos scored in stoppage time to secure a dramatic draw for Marco Silva, who had an eventful start to life at Vicarage Road. Watford scored three or more goals at home on just three occasions last season, and although there is plenty to improve on defensively, the way they were able to unsettle Liverpool defensively is a cause for optimism moving forward. Okaka looks a danger up top, while Andre Gray and Troy Deeney will both add to what will be a tough selection dilemma up front. Watford ended last season with seven consecutive away Premier League defeats and improving the club’s away form will need to be at the top of Silva’s list of priorities.

Watford Team News

Troy Deeney (groin) could be included in the Watford squad for this weekend’s away trip. Christian Kabasele (hamstring) is a doubt, although Mauro Zarate (cruciate ligament) should return to training at the end of the month.
