AFC Bournemouth Preview

Eddie Howe was left frustrated with the lack of quality his side produced against Burnley in midweek, as his former club ruined his birthday celebrations with a 2-1 win at the Vitality Stadium. Burnley were the better side by some distance and deservedly took the lead in the 37th minute as Chris Wood scored his fourth Premier League goal of the season. Robbie Brady doubled Burnley’s advantage with a fine effort from range, and although Josh King pulled one back with ten minutes to go, it wasn’t enough for them to get anything from the game. Howe bemoaned the way his side were unable to keep the ball against Burnley, and their lack of sharpness, particularly at home, was surprising to see given their recent home performances. After winning back-to-back games before the last week, Bournemouth now come into this game without a win in their last two after also drawing 0-0 to Swansea last weekend. Having taken just one point from a possible six in their last two, Bournemouth have now slipped down to 15th in the table and are just four points above the relegation zone in what is a congested bottom half.

AFC Bournemouth Team News

Adam Federici (knee), Tyrone Mings (back) and Junior Stanislas (groin) are all ruled out for the home side.

Southampton Preview

It was heartbreak for Southampton at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night as Mauricio Pellegrino’s men came within seconds of being only the second side to take points off Manchester City this season. Kevin De Bruyne’s free-kick was deflected in off Virgil van Dijk for City’s opener early in the second half, but Saints drew level after Sofiane Boufal’s excellent touch allowed him to set up Oriol Romeu for Southampton’s equaliser 15 minutes from time. However, in the sixth minute of stoppage time, Raheem Sterling found the top corner of Fraser Forster’s goal as City continued their winning streak and maintained their eight-point advantage at the top of the table. Southampton came so close to topping what would’ve been a superb five days or so for the team, having performed excellently during their 4-1 win away to Everton. Portsmouth have always historically been Southampton’s biggest rivals, but the more this fixture takes place the bigger it will become for both sides. Southampton have a solid recent record against the Cherries, losing just one of their four meetings in the Premier League so far, and have won a total of five of their seven fixtures this century.

Southampton Team News

Matt Targett (leg) is set to miss out once again for Southampton this weekend.
