AFC Bournemouth vs Manchester City Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Bournemouth take on Manchester City at the Vitality Stadium on 26/08/17 as Pep Guardiola’s men look to make it two wins from three to start the new season. Bournemouth’s disappointing start to the season continued on Saturday as they were beaten 2-0 at home to Watford, while City were held to a 1-1 draw by Everton on Monday night. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

It’s been a difficult start to the season for Bournemouth, who will have expected to have already got points on the board from their first two fixtures. City come into this game with a chip on their shoulder following Kyle Walker’s red card against Everton midweek and I can see them securing a comfortable victory.

AFC Bournemouth Preview

Kicking off the season with 0 points from a possible 6 is hardly the kind of start Eddie Howe envisaged from his Bournemouth side, particularly with the winnable nature of the fixtures presented to them. Watford at home is a game the Cherries would always target to win, but they proved to be second best to Marco Silva’s outfit, who took the lead seventeen minutes from time through £13m man Richarlyson. Etienne Capoue’s excellent chest-and-hit put the game to bed late on, leaving Howe to return to the drawing board. Two games and no goals suggests it may be time to hand Jermain Defoe his first start of the season this weekend, having got little production out of Benik Afobe nor Josh King in the opening pair of fixtures. Usually fixtures against the likes of City are a free hit for sides such as Bournemouth, but should they fail to get a result here, there would be real pressure on them after the international break if they are still yet to register a point. Howe, though, won’t revert from his philosophy despite their struggles, particularly when the side did win four of their final six home games at the end of last season.

AFC Bournemouth Team News

Junior Stanislas (hernia) and Callum Wilson (cruciate ligament) are both set to miss out for Bournemouth. Captain Simon Francis (hamstring) missed last weekend’s defeat, so Adam Smith could retain his place at full-back.

Manchester City Preview

What was anticipated by many to be a Manchester City win soon turned into an infuriating evening at the Etihad on Monday night, as Everton - for the second time in two seasons - showed how to keep a Pep Guardiola team at bay. Almost inevitably, Wayne Rooney converted Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s square pass to score his 200th Premier League goal against the side he also netted his 50th and 150th for Manchester United. Kyle Walker’s red card only added fuel to the fury of the Etihad crowd, but the disadvantage didn’t hold the hosts back, eventually being rewarded for their dominance when Raheem Sterling volleyed in the equaliser from the edge of the box. On another day, City could’ve won the game by two or three, but Guardiola can take positives from the way his side were still able to impose themselves in a game where they were down to ten men, particularly against a team likely to finish in the top seven. City come into this fixture with six wins from their last nine away from home, with Chelsea the only side to beat them in that time and already have a 2-0 win at Brighton to their names this season.

Manchester City Team News

Kyle Walker is suspended for the away side, so Guardiola could make a straight swap with Danilo starting in his place. Raheem Sterling will be pushing to start after scoring from the bench last time out.
