AFC Bournemouth vs Liverpool Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Bournemouth welcome Liverpool to the Vitality Stadium on 17/12/17 as both teams look to return to winning ways in the Premier League. Bournemouth lost 1-0 at Manchester United on Wednesday night, as Liverpool were held to a 0-0 draw at home to West Brom. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Bournemouth are once again going through a difficult spell, with the team failing to win in recent weeks. Liverpool meanwhile are on an unbeaten stretch since losing to Tottenham and I’m expecting them to pick up the win here.

AFC Bournemouth Preview

Bournemouth were unable to bring their winless run to a halt during the Premier League’s midweek round of fixtures, after suffering a 1-0 defeat away to Manchester United. United weren’t exactly at their free-flowing best but did enough to edge past Eddie Howe’s men with a single goal from Romelu Lukaku in the 25th minute. Bournemouth themselves created chances, with David de Gea being the busiest of the two goalkeepers but they were unable to find a way past the Spaniard, as they fell to their second defeat in four games. Now without a win in five, a mixture of misfortune and poor performances have let the Cherries down of late, while their last five at home has also only seen them win one game during that time. Currently 14th, Bournemouth are one of a number of teams within reachable distance of the bottom three at this moment in time, with Howe’s side now only two points above the drop zone. Jermain Defoe scored twice in his previous start against Crystal Palace and will hope to have a similar impact here should he be restored to the starting XI after being rested on Wednesday. Bournemouth defeated Liverpool 4-3 in this fixture last year and will be hoping for a similar result to kickstart their Christmas run this time around.

AFC Bournemouth Team News

Adam Federici (knee), Tyrone Mings (back) and Brad Smith (hip) are all set to miss out for Bournemouth.

Liverpool Preview

Liverpool felt the feeling of frustration at Anfield for the second time in four days on Wednesday evening after being held to a 0-0 draw by West Bromwich Albion. The Baggies game plan was obvious, particularly when looking at Alan Pardew’s starting XI in what was a Liverpool performance reminiscent of some of the Reds’ struggles against the Premier League’s lower sides last season. Dominic Solanke came closest for Liverpool, first seeing an effort ruled out for handball before Ahmed Hegazi cleared his goal bound effort off the line. Jurgen Klopp saw his men fall into a severe slump during January last season and this may be partly why he has adopted such a regimented rotation policy this time around, though it appears to be having a detrimental effect on their current form. The Reds have drawn five of their last seven home league games at Anfield - winning the other two 3-0 - with it surprisingly being their away form that has been their strength of late. Klopp has guided his team to three straight wins on the road in the Premier League, scoring 12 goals in doing so and their change of system away from home seems to be working. Liverpool have adopted a more rigid 4-4-2 system of late, with Mo Salah operating in a more central role, with the back four protected by two holding midfield players.

Liverpool Team News

Nathaniel Clyne (back), Joel Matip (thigh) and Alberto Moreno (ankle) are all ruled out. Daniel Sturridge (knock) is a doubt, but Adam Lallana (hamstring) could return.
