AFC Bournemouth vs Chelsea Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Bournemouth were able to recover from a disappointing streak to pick up a 2-0 win over West Ham in their last match. After a first-half that did not witness any goals, the Cherries were able to come up with the opener through Callum Wilson just after half-time. Joshua King confirmed the three points with a late goal. Chelsea had a smooth progress into the fifth round of the FA Cup after a 3-0 success over Sheffield Wednesday. A penalty from Willian and a superb goal from Callum Hudson-Odoi was able to put Chelsea in a commanding position before Willian’s late effort made it a big win for the blues.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Chelsea have been quite inconsistent and the club are without an away victory in 2019 after losing both matches on the road. However, Bournemouth are missing a number of key players for this match including Callum Wilson, who is club’s top scorer. This significantly reduces the impact from Bournemouth, when Chelsea have just strengthened their forward line up with the signing of players like Higuain. I would pick a victory for Chelsea.

A major factor behind Bournemouth struggling this season is a defence that has simply been unable to work as a unit and keep out the opposition. Individually, Bournemouth have some good defenders but they have ended up making the Cherries has the fourth worst defensive outfit. I would back over 2.5 goals in the match.

AFC Bournemouth Preview

Eddie Howe has a huge task on his hands to build on the win over West Ham without some key members of the squad over the next few weeks. Bournemouth have done exceedingly well up until this point, but Howe appears to be running out of ideas in recent weeks. The Cherries have recognised the need to spend in the January transfer window so as to freshen up the squad. Chris Mepham, Dominic Solanke, and Nathaniel Clyne are expected to deliver in the second half of the campaign, whilst Jermain Defoe is the significant departure from the team. It also appears like Callum Wilson’s knee injury may prevent him from making a switch in January.

AFC Bournemouth Team News

Dominic Solanke (hamstring), Callum Wilson (knee), Joshua King, Lewis Cook (cruciate ligament), and Simon Francis (cruciate ligament) are unavailable for Bournemouth.

Chelsea Preview

Maurizio Sarri has come under the spotlight over the last couple of weeks. Chelsea have not functioned at their best in terms of consistency. The manager’s decision to criticise the players in public may have an impact in the second half of the campaign – especially when things are not going well. For the time being, Chelsea are looking to integrate new signings like Gonzalo Higuain in the best possible way. The club are also in the dark about the future of Callum Hudson-Odoi, who has made a tremendous impact despite being linked with a move to Bayern Munich.

Chelsea Team News

Daniel Drinkwater (knock) and Marco van Ginkel (cruciate ligament) are unavailable for the blues.
