AFC Bournemouth Preview

Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth now find themselves just two games away from a Wembley appearance after seeing their way past Middlesbrough with a 3-1 win in the Carabao Cup. Young defender Josh Simpson scored his first professional goal to put the hosts in front, but Boro youngster Marcus Tavernier levelled proceedings seven minutes later. However, strikes from forwards Callum WIlson and Benik Afobe sent the home side home and dry and made it back-to-back wins for the improving Cherries. Having also won 2-1 at Stoke last weekend, the squad should be full of confidence heading into this weekend’s clash, though there still remains pressure on them to get points on the board. Bournemouth have just seven points from their opening nine games, a return which leaves them 19th in the Premier League table at this moment in time, but they are just a point from safety, with four other sides now on eight points. Despite their current league position, Bournemouth are still yet to have suffered a heavy defeat at home and only lost to Manchester City at home thanks to a 97th minute winner from Raheem Sterling. In all competitions Bournemouth are currently unbeaten in four games at home, winning three and drawing the other.

AFC Bournemouth Team News

Brad Smith (hip) and Jermain Defoe (hamstring) will be assessed before this game. Adam Federici (knee) and Tyrone Mings (back) both miss out.

Chelsea Preview

Chelsea booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday with a 2-1 victory over Everton at Stamford Bridge. Antonio Rudiger’s excellent first-half header put the Blues in front, and the scoreline remained the same until a goal apiece for both teams in stoppage time. Willian’s excellent solo effort gave Chelsea a two-goal lead, but the deficit was quickly halved by Dominic Calvert-Lewin. It wasn’t enough to deny Chelsea, though, who made it two wins in the space of five days at home having beaten Watford 4-2 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday lunchtime. Despite the convincing manner of the scoreline, Chelsea’s performance that day was anything but, and they really should’ve trailed 4-1 after Richarlison missed two glorious chances at 1-1 and 2-1. Clearly something still isn’t quite right at Stamford Bridge and noises linking Antonio Conte with a return to Italy continue to grow. Having lost to Crystal Palace in their previous away game, Chelsea will now hope to avoid losing back-to-back away league games for the first time since November 2015. Currently nine points behind leaders Manchester City after nine games, they can’t afford to lose anymore significant ground on Pep Guardiola’s men if they are to sustain a serious title defence.

Chelsea Team News

Both Victor Moses and N’Golo Kante are ruled out for Chelsea with hamstring problems.
