ADO Den Haag vs FC Utrecht Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

The 2017/18 Eredivisie campaign will kick off on Friday evening, with ADO Den Haag taking on FC Utrecht at the Cars Jeans Stadion. ADO Den Haag head into this clash on the back of a narrow 1-0 win over Excelsior in a friendly game two days ago, with Johnsen scoring the winner just before the break. Meanwhile, FC Utrecht enter the fray high on confidence after they managed to qualify for the Europa League play-offs thanks to a 2-2 away draw at Lech Poznan for the second leg of their tie, thanks to goals from Gyrano Kerk and Zakaria Labyad. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

ADO Den Haag enter the fray high on confidence following their impeccable pre-season campaign, while FC Utrecht have only won once in their last eight games across all competitions. However, Utrecht will be in a good mood following their Europa League play-offs qualification, so they will be looking to build on their momentum. Three of the last four meetings between these two teams have seen goals at both ends of the pitch, and I think this will be the case in here as well. I’m also backing ADO to snatch at least one point as Utrecht definitely have a much weaker squad than in the previous seasons.

ADO Den Haag Preview

ADO Den Haag have enjoyed an impeccable pre-season campaign as they have won each of their ten friendly fixtures. Their first pre-season games were against teams from the Dutch lower divisions, but they also looked good recently against the likes of De Graafschap, Beijing and Excelsior. ADO Den Haag seems to have solved last season’s defensive problems as they have only conceded four goals throughout their pre-season campaign. Last season, ADO barely avoided relegation as they finished 11th in the standings, just four points clear of the drop zone. Conceding has been their biggest problem last term as they allowed 59 goals in 34 rounds, which was one of the worst defensive records in the division. Although they haven’t invested any money in the transfer market this summer, ADO managed to bring in some experienced players in the shape of Melvyn Lorenzen from Wolfsburg, Lex Immers from Club Brugge, Bas Kuipers from Excelsior and Nick Kuipers from Maastricht, all on free transfers. The bad news is that they have lost their last season’s top scorer Mike Havenaar, who joined the Japanese side Vissel Kobe on a free transfer. ADO can count on their home form ahead of this clash as they are currently on a nine-game undefeated streak across all competitions, winning seven in the process.

ADO Den Haag Team News

Nick Kuipers is a doubt ahead of this tie.

FC Utrecht Preview

In comparison with Friday'sopponents, FC Utrecht have already played four competitive games this summer as they have been involved in the Europa League qualifiers after winning the Eredivisie play-offs last term. FC Utrecht managed to beat Valletta 3-1 on aggregate in the second Europa League qualifying round and followed this up with a hard-fought 2-2 aggregate draw against Lech Poznan, but managed to qualify for the play-offs due to the away goal rule. Utrecht finished 4th last season and have won the Eredivisie Europa League play-offs, but they will definitely have a more difficult task this season as they have lost three key players this summer. Their last season’s topscorer Sebastien Haller has been sold to Eintracht Frankfurt for €7m, Sofyan Amrabat to Feyenoord for €4m, while Nacer Barazite moved to Y. Malatyaspor on a free transfer. They brought in Sander van de Streek from Cambuur for €600,000, Cyriel Dessers from NAC Breda for €350,000 and Anouar Kali from Willem II for €150,000, but they will definitely miss Sebastien Haller this season as he helped them with 13 goals and 5 assists last term. Utrecht’s recent away form has seen them win just two of their last seven away games across all competitions, but the good news is that they are undefeated in the last two visits to the Cars Jeans Stadion.

FC Utrecht Team News

Chris Gurkan David, Patrick Joosten and Rico Strieder are all doubts ahead of this trip.
