Aberdeen vs Celtic Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Aberdeen’s four-game winning run ended with a 2-0 defeat against Hibernian at the Easter Road stadium. Martin Boyle and Florian Kamberi scored in the first 15 minutes of the second half to reinvigorate the fight for the SPL second spot. Celtic could only manage a goalless draw with St Johnstone during the weekend. This was followed by a 3-0 loss against Zenit St Petersburg in the Europa League. This led to a 3-1 aggregate defeat for the Scottish giants.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Celtic have been able to claim nine consecutive victories against Aberdeen in all competitions. The last victory for Aberdeen against his opponent came just over two years ago. Incidentally, this victory was at the Pittodrie Stadium. A home game represents the best possible way for Aberdeen to try and beat Celtic, as Brendan Rodgers outfit have lost three out of the last five away games in all competitions. I would go with a surprise win for Aberdeen in this fixture.

Even though Celtic have been unable to score in three out of the last five away games, they are up against an Aberdeen outfit that has struggled at the back with only one clean sheet in four home games. The last time Celtic failed to score against Aberdeen was in a 2008 FA Cup encounter. I would back both teams to score.

Aberdeen Preview

Aberdeen have been left disappointed with their hopes of reclaiming the second spot from Rangers. After the end of last weekend’s results, Aberdeen have dropped to the third spot owing to an inferior goal difference compared to Graeme Murty’s team. Now, Aberdeen are coming under pressure from Hibernian, who are five points behind. Despite having gone through the run of three wins in the last four games, Aberdeen have been unable to make a lot of difference in the race for the second place. The recent set of results will only increase the pressure on Derek McInnes, as falling out of the top three will prove costly for the team’s European ambitions. Adam Rooney is the top scorer at Aberdeen this season, and the striker has eight goals so far.

Aberdeen Team News

Joe Lewis (knee) is the only injury worry for Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes.

Celtic Preview

The recent matches for Celtic have seen a significant drop in form. After having been used to winning several games on the bounce, Brendan Rodgers has seen his team get only two wins in the last five matches of all competitions. Celtic were also woefully exposed in Europe once again, as the team lost against Zenit St Petersburg. The energy levels for the Scottish outfit will be a talking point ahead of this weekend, as they have had a lengthy trip to Russia for the Europa League game. Celtic have also suffered from the lack of a consistent scorer this season. Scott Sinclair leads the scoring charts at the club with nine league goals.

Celtic Team News

Craig Gordon (knee), Leigh Griffiths (calf), and Jonny Hayes (tibia fracture) are the injury concerns for Brendan Rodgers coming into the game.
