Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks will stay at White Hart Lane until 2022, having signed a new contract with his boyhood club. Winks has featured 25 times for Spurs in all competitions this season, and he is delighted to have extended his stay.

“I’m delighted, over the moon to be signing another contract, commit my future more and look forward to the upcoming years.” Winks added “I’m still a Spurs fan, it’s always been my boyhood club. Every time I play for the team, I give it my all - it’s in my nature really. I’ve been playing for Tottenham since I was six but I feel like I’m gradually getting a more important role.”

The 21 year old is one of a number of homegrown youngsters in the Tottenham squad. The future is looking increasingly bright for the North London side with the new stadium set to be unveiled in the next 18 months. Spurs look set to claim European football again next season, whether that will be Champions League or Europa League remains to be seen.

With such a young spine to the team Mauricio Pochettino must be impressed with his teams potential to go on and achieve. English players such as Harry Kane, Danny Rose, Dele Alli, Eric Dier and Kyle Walker have become regular England internationals, and Winks will be hoping to join his teammates on the international stage. Winks earned his first England U21 cap against France in November, having progressed through the international setup through all junior ranks.

“The club are believing in me. Obviously I’m doing well on the pitch to be rewarded with this but ultimately it doesn’t stop there. I’ve got to keep working hard and keep improving.”
