Lukaku to snub fresh Everton deal
Romelu Lukaku looks set to call time on his Everton career at the end of the season after rejecting the option to sign a new contract with the club.
The Belgian international has two years remaining on his current deal and was reportedly offered £100,000-a-week to remain at Goodison Park ― a sum which would’ve made him their highest paid player.
The 23-year-old is currently enjoying his most prolific season, netting 19 times to break his personal best tally with 10 games to go, sitting level with Harry Kane as the league’s top goalscorer. He netted in Everton’s 3-0 win over West Brom on Saturday.
Both he and his agent, Mino Raiola, have often talked up the possibility of a move away, claiming that Lukaku turned down the opportunity to join Serie A giants Juventus last summer.
Even current manager Ronald Koeman advised in November that Lukaku should one day leave to fulfil his undoubted talent, saying: "His potential is greater and higher than Everton as a final destination.
"If Romelu was to play at Everton until the end of his career I know he has left something behind."
A bidding war may now ensue for the former Chelsea man, who has been linked with a return to his former club, as well as Manchester United and Arsenal.
Given that Raiola stated in December that a new contract for his client was "99.9 percent" done, the news is likely to come as a blow for both the club and its supporters’ with it appearing that they will lose out on their most valuable asset.
