Leonardo Bonucci set for shock move to AC Milan from Juventus
One of the best center backs in the world over the past few years, Leonardo Bonucci, is closing in on a shock transfer to AC Milan, with several reports claiming a rift between him and manager Massimiliano Allegri. The defender’s agent, Alessandro Lucci, is expected at Juventus HQ today to finalise his client’s transfer to AC Milan. Prior to Juventus’ Champions League clash with Porto last season, Bonucci was dropped from the squad following an altercation with Allegri. Furthermore, there were some reports of unrest in the dressing room involving Bonucci during half-time of the Champions League final tie against Real Madrid, but the player denied anything had happened afterwards.
The Premier League side, Chelsea, tried to break the bank three transfer windows in a row and each time they were rejected by Juventus. However, it seems that AC Milan are ready to pay upwards of €40 m (£35m) to secure the rights of Leonardo Bonucci. According to Sky Italia, both parts worked late into last night and it seems that Bonucci is likely to arrive in Milan today to begin his new adventure with the Diavolo.
Juventus legend, Alessandro Del Piero, said he is stunned by this move, adding: “I don’t know what to say as a Juve fan. I didn’t expect it. It’s just come like a bolt from the blue. I thought it was a joke at first. Let’s just say it was very, very surprising.”
According to several Italian sports newspapers in the shape of La Stampa, Gazzetta dello Sport, Corriere dello Sport and Tuttosport, it seems that Milan could also offer Mattia Di Sciglio as part of the deal. However, it appears that Juventus are interested in Roma’s defender Kostas Manolas, but Roma said that he is not for sale, although the Greek International was very close to joining Zenit St. Petersburg last month, with the deal collapsing at last minute.
