After impressing on loan last season and helping Aston Villa gain promotion to the Premier League, there was no doubt that a permanent deal to bring Tyrone Mings to the club was one that everyone associated with the team wanted. They all got their wish this weekend, when Villa finally completed the transfer of Mings from Bournemouth, a real boost to their survival chances for the upcoming season.

The 26 year old was brought in for £20 million as Villa continue to splash the cash in the hope of surviving in the Premier League. Just as we saw last season, Mings stood out as being a leader and key figure in the Villa backline and that is the exact role he will be asked to fill once more by the club. Things will of course be tougher, but Mings showed his class last season and looked more than capable of playing Premier League football.

This is the sixth signing that the club have made, but something that will help them is that three of the six are players who spent last season on loan at the club. That means these players are already familiar with how the club and manager works, so the chances of unrest with so many coming in are a lot lower. This is a shrewd way of doing business and should allow Villa to get some points on the board early as they look to survive back in the top flight.

Villa continue to put together their squad for the Premier League and it looks as though more players will be coming in over the next few weeks before action gets underway. The first aim will simply be survival for them and the bookmakers have them priced up at 4/11 to stay up or 2/1 to go down, showing that they think Villa will have enough to remain in the top flight.
