United Have Uphill Task against Barcelona after Old Trafford Defeat

Manchester United were beaten 1-0 at home by Barcelona in the Champions League last night, giving themselves an incredibly tough task to qualify for the semi finals. I won't completely rule United out just yet, we all saw what they did in France against PSG, but this is going to be very tough, no doubt about it. The Spanish giants are now into favourites to win the whole competition, after their good performance away from home and the defeat of Manchester City by Tottenham.

I don't think Manchester United played too badly in the game, and for most of it they worked very hard and had chances to win the first leg. They kept Barcelona quiet for long period, especially Lionel Messi who was far from his usual self in the game. The disappointing factor for United will be that they once again showed that they lack genuine quality and a cutting edge. They worked hard and played well, but had no one who looked even remotely like taking advantage of an average display by Barcelona.

United are not out of this, but if they are to somehow come out on top in the second leg then they have to play a lot better, take their chances and hope that Barcelona are quiet again. It is possible, but a big ask for all of those to happen together.

As you would expect, the bookmakers have made Barcelona strong favourites to win the second leg back at home, something that would win them the tie and put them through to the semi finals. The Spanish side are 42/100 to win that game in 90 minutes, while Manchester United are available at 6/1 in a game they have to win to get through to the next round.
