The Young Pretender 1-0 The Master

Frank Lampard led his Derby County team to a famous victory at Old Trafford last night, while also getting one over on his good friend and old boss Jose Mourinho. This was the first big test for Lampard as a manager and he took to it exactly as many thought he would, coming out on top. This has been a very impressive start to Lampard's managerial career and the game at Old Trafford is an early highlight for him.

The team put out by Jose Mourinho was a far better one than expected and that adds even more credibility to the scoreline, this wasn't a youth team that Lampard got one over, it was a very strong first team, with just a small handful of changes made by Jose Mourinho. Lampard also fielded a strong team, and clearly wanted to win this game despite it being in the sometimes disregarded Carabao Cup competition.

The result gives Jose Mourinho plenty to think about going forward, and is the second poor result in the space of four days at home after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Wolves at the weekend. There is no doubt that Mourinho is having a tough time of things recently, United can't seem to get going and he is going to have to work some magic to get them back into shape.

Next up for Manchester United is a trip to the Olympic Stadium to take on West Ham, a game where they have been installed as the 3/4 favourites. The Hammers can be backed at 18/5, while the draw is available at 11/4 which could appeal to some after both of these teams drew in the league last weekend. Derby County are also odds on for their next game, they are priced up at 23/25 for a trip to Bolton to continue their good run. The Trotters have slipped down the table recently and are 16/5 to win the game while the draw is priced up at 9/4.
