Stoke City have appointed Nathan Jones to be their new manager after sacking Gary Rowett earlier this week. The Potters have certainly moved quickly and wasted no time in appointing a replacement as they look to move up into the top half of the table where they are expected to be. Jones comes to the club after spending time at Luton, where he guided them to promotion from League Two into League One, and he leaves them sat in second position in League One, he has certainly done a very good job with them.

After seeing his work at Luton, it is easy to see why many regard Jones as one of the best lower league managers, and at just 45 he has plenty of time left in his career to make an impact higher up the pyramid. This move to Stoke is the kind that could put him on the map, and show off his credentials even further, with the pressure of working at a big club something he will now have to deal with.

At the start of this season, Stoke were the favourites to be promoted back into the Premier League, although things have certainly not gone to plan for them so far. Jones takes over the club sitting in 14th position, far lower than they should be at this stage and with the club winning just one of their last five games. If he turns things around then he can certainly climb the table with them, they are just four points off 7th placed Nottingham Forest and eight points away from the playoff positions.

Jones will begin his Stoke reign with an away trip to Brentford, a team who are below them in the division. Despite that, Brentford are the favourites to win the game at 11/8 and you can get odds of 21/10 for Jones to win his first game in charge of Stoke this weekend. This is a big opportunity for him, and the quicker he can get a win on the board, the easier it will be for him to settle into his new role with the club.
