Manchester United finished second in the Premier League last season, although they did end a huge 19 points behind their city rivals Manchester City. They finished 11 points ahead of Chelsea in 5th place, to give them one of the important top four Champions League spots but so far we are yet to see them do anything to show us they are capable of moving forward and getting closer to Manchester City.

They have made two signings of note so far, with Fred and Diogo Dalot although neither are thought to be able to take them to the next level where they can genuinely challenge City. This has also happened while clubs below United have been getting better, and giving them more chance to catch United. Liverpool look to be on the verge of signing a world class goalkeep in Alisson, while Arsenal are undergoing a complete transformation that is designed to turn around their fortunes. Tottenham have so far managed to keep hold of Harry Kane, which is seen as their most important piece of business so far.

All of this has been going on while United fans have been left wondering what will happen at their club. When Cristiano Ronaldo became available many called for him to be signed, although that was never likely to happen with the money involved. The fact is that United are in limbo right now, they are not capable of chasing down Manchester City, but they have one eye looking over their shoulder at teams like Liverpool, because those teams enter the new season thinking they can overtake United.

Over the next few weeks we need to see something from the Red Devils to show us that they mean business, and they do want to maintain their position in the Premier League, as well as being the team most likely to take advantage should City fail for any reason.

United 6/1 for Premier League Glory

Manchester United are third favourites to lift the Premier League title this coming season. They are priced up at 6/1 with the bookmakers, behind Manchester City who are 4/6 favourites and Liverpool who are 5/1 second favourites. The bookmakers think that as things stand now, Liverpool will overtake United as the main danger to City, and based on what we have seen this summer that looks to be about right. United have a month to go until the start of the season, and they need to do something to show their intent to the rest of the league.
