After winning the Premier League title for the past two seasons, there is no standing still for Manchester City, something that is going to make them incredibly hard to catch. Instead of being happy with their squad, they are diving into the transfer market this summer and one name that has been mentioned as a big target for them is Rodri. The 22 year old midfielder is currently playing in Spain with Atletico Madrid after joining them in 2018. However, he has been catching the eye of City, who believe that their next move needs to be bringing in a central midfielder.

Rodri is unlikely to get the limelight that some players do at the club, being a defensive minded player, but if City do bring him in then he is going to play a very important role. By having someone like Rodri in the team, other midfielders can move forward and attack with confidence, because they know he will be behind and covering them. This is not the role that is talked about too much, but it is a very important one and especially for a club like City who have a number of different players who all want to get forward and attack.

The player has a release clause in his contract of £62.6 million, which it is assumed City will have to pay to bring him to England. If they do that then he will straight away become their transfer record, beating the fee they spent on Riyad Mahrez just 12 months ago.

Those who finished behind City last season will be looking at this and fearing the worst. They look intent on winning the Premier League for a third straight season and are already odds on to do that, priced up at 8/13 to win it again while their nearest challengers Liverpool are available at 5/2
