Late Goals Stun Spurs in Italy

It hasn't been a good period for Tottenham and last night in Italy they suffered their third defeat in a row at the hands of Inter Milan. Spurs played ok, but not as good as we have seen them and two late goals from the Italians was enough to take three points away from Spurs. Inter threatened throughout the game and there was always a question mark over whether Tottenham would be able to hang on for what would have been a great start to the Champions League for them. Unfortunately though for those who had travelled over and the many more watching at home on TV, Mauro Icardi and Matias Vecino had other ideas.

A draw would probably have been a fair result on reflection of the game, but Spurs couldn't hold onto that. They looked in shock after conceding an equaliser in the 85th minute of the game, and then heartbreak came when Spurs conceded another in the 92nd minute. This will, of course, be a bitter pill to swallow and to make things worse it was their third defeat in a row. The performance against Inter was slightly better than that against Liverpool and Watford in their two other defeats, but not by much and Tottenham are not showing as much as they can right now, something that needs addressing.

Spanish giants Barcelona are also in this group, and look likely to win it, leaving the battle for second between Inter and Tottenham. Barcelona got off to a fantastic 4-0 victory last night at home to PSV and the next game for Spurs will come at home to Barcelona in two weeks. They are not really expected to beat Barcelona, but pressure will be a little higher after the loss in Italy last night.

A combination of their recent form and a loss last night has seen Tottenham move out to 40/1 to win the Champions League, while Barcelona are now the 6/1 second favourites after their victory. Inter Milan were never really involved in the betting going into the tournament and are 60/1 to lift the trophy. Inter face PSV away from home next, of course, and three points would really aid their qualification chances.
