Last Minute Free Kick Rescues Everton after Poor Performance

A last minute, beautifully hit free kick from Lucas Digne was enough to save Everton from a home defeat last night at the hands of Watford. The game had a little extra significance due to the fact that these clubs are still arguing over compensation for boss Marco Silva, who moved from Watford to Everton this summer. Those still at Watford would have loved a win over their former boss, but it wasn't to be for them, although a point from this game is still a good result for them.

Watford certainly deserved all three points from this game, and they deserve praise for how they showed attacking intent throughout the contest. They were rewarded with two goals in the space of three minutes which turned the game on its head, That put them 2-1 ahead and they looked to be on their way to picking up what would be a very valuable three points on the road, although Lucas Digne had other ideas.

Digne found the back of the net with a wonderful free kick, giving Everton a point more than they deserved from this game, and denying Watford the three points they deserved from this tie. Everton are a team who need to find some consistency in their performances going forward if they are to finish in the top half as expected, while Watford should take a lot of heart from their performance here, they played very well.

Just when Everton could do with a game to get back on track and perform well in, they have a tough trip to Manchester City to look forward to this weekend. They head over to the Etihad for the early kick off on Saturday, and are priced up at 16/1 to win that game, while their hosts are the strong 2/11 favourites. Watford have much calmer waters on Saturday, and a great opportunity to get three points on the board when they host Cardiff. The Hornets are 8/13 to pick up a win here, with Cardiff priced up at 24/5 to deny Watford yet again.
