It's All Too Easy for Liverpool and Manchester City in the Premier League
Pretty much everyone expects Liverpool and Manchester City to be the only two viable winners of the Premier League this season and if there was a weekend to show that, then it was the weekend of football that we have just witnessed. Both Liverpool and Manchester City eased to victories, scoring goals and keeping clean sheets. Compare that with the next tier of teams in the league, Chelsea drew away at West Ham, Tottenham scraped to victory at Brighton, Arsenal showed huge defensive issues despite winning 2-0 and Manchester United were held at home by Wolves. For many years we have had a top four, or a top six in the Premier League, but now we appear to have a top two, and they don't look like slowing down anytime soon.
Manchester City recorded the biggest win of the weekend with a 5-0 hammering of newly promoted Cardiff. City were simply too strong, Cardiff never looked like scoring and every single time City drove forward they had far too much for The Bluebirds to cope with. There is a big gulf in class between these two teams and we saw that on Saturday. Cardiff would have wanted to keep things tight for as long as possible, but as soon as Sergio Aguero scored after half an hour, the floodgates opened.
It was just as comfortable for Liverpool, who won 3-0 at home to Southampton. After a thrilling start it was 3-0 at half time to the hosts, who eased off and kept things simple to cruise to victory in the second half. Liverpool didn't have too much defending to do here, but looked strong on the odd occasion when they did, while their superstar attacking line up put Southampton to the sword going in the other direction.
Manchester City 5/8 Favourites For Title, Liverpool 6/4
The bookmakers are struggling to split the big two teams in the Premier League, with Manchester City still the odds on favourites to win the league at 5/8, and Liverpool close behind at 6/4. The start to the season has seen Liverpool shorten dramatically since the season kicked off, especially as we have seemingly seen this turn into a two horse race already. Liverpool face their biggest test so far next Saturday when they head to Chelsea to take on an unbeaten Blues side, and they are the 7/5 favourites to win that game with their hosts at 9/5. Manchester City have a much easier task, they face Brighton at home and are huge odds on favourites at 2/25.
