Important Period for Sheffield Wednesday as Transfer Embargo Lifted

Sheffield Wednesday have not signed anyone either permanent or on loan so far this season due to their transfer embargo. However, the embargo has now been lifted and they are able to bring players into the club. They are only allowed to sign players on loan as the transfer deadline has passed, but it is better than nothing and there is the possibility of them bringing in players initially on loan with a view to buy them during the January transfer window if they wish.

For the past few seasons The Owls have been trying their best to win promotion to the Premier League and they have spent a lot of money in trying to reach the top flight. That appears to have caught up with them putting them in the situation they are now in, and it will be interesting to see how hard they push this season. When they have spent money, they have played well but never really come close to getting promotion, showing just how hard it is to get out of the English second tier. If Wednesday are to compete again this season then they know they will be one of eight or ten teams who have a genuine chance of promotion, with nothing guaranteed in the Championship.

The squad that Wednesday have right now is probably not good enough to land promotion, unless a number of their rivals underachieve this season, which means further investment is required. Bringing players in on loan is very difficult, but Wednesday may be able to tempt teams to part with their stars if there is a future transfer fee in place for the January window. This situation is not something we have seen before, so who knows what will happen but one thing is for sure, this is going to be a very interesting and important time for Sheffield Wednesday, and their fans will be able to see whether the club is willing to spend money and compete this season or whether they are happy with a mid table finish.

Wednesday 5/1 for Brentford Trip on Sunday

After their Carabao Cup game on Thursday night, Sheffield Wednesday don't return to action in the Championship until Sunday this weekend and they have a long trip down to Brentford to contend with. The home team are strongly fancied by the bookmakers, and they are 4/7 favourites to win the game. Sheffield Wednesday are priced up at a huge 5/1 to win, which could be seen as value by some in this game where there appears to be little between the two teams. The draw can be backed at 3/1 in this one, and that too may be of interest to some punters.
