What a shock we had at Elland Road last night, with Leeds being knocked out of the playoffs by Derby, who were superb on the night. The Rams went into the game 1-0 down, and playing away from home but they managed to find a way to win and book their place at Wembley. They were very good on the night Derby, but Leeds were poor, especially in the second half and they gifted Derby the game.

Mistakes from Leeds including a messed up clearance that gifted Derby a goal just before half time and a sending off for a reckless challenge in the second half all gifted Derby the opportunities they needed. They still had to take them though, and they did so in brilliant fashion, eventually winning the tie 4-2 on the night to qualify with an aggregate score of 4-3.

Special praise should go to boss Frank Lampard, who saw his team struggling in the first half and made a brilliant tactical change. He brought a second striker onto the pitch, and played a diamond in midfield which opened Derby up but allowed them to really put pressure on the Leeds back line. That is what caused the bad play for the first goal, and it all went downhill for Leeds after that, with everything going back to the substitution and change in formation that Lampard executed.

Derby will face Aston Villa in the playoff final, which takes place on Monday 27th May. Villa are the favourites to gain promotion to the Premier League, and they are priced up at 8/13 to do that. Derby are odds against, but if they play like they did last night they will certainly test Villa and they are available at 5/4 to get promoted.
