When the group draw was made for the Champions League, many expected Manchester City to dominate Group F, with a few predicting that they could go and win all six group games. They failed to do that on the very first day, when Lyon went to Manchester and shocked City to come away with all three points. Things got back on track in week two when City won against German side Hoffenheim, and now they head into week three where they travel to the Ukraine to take on Shakhtar Donetsk.

This is an opportunity for City to grab back control of the group at the half way stage and show that they are the dominant force that people expected them to be. Lyon currently top the group with four points, while City sit in behind them with three. The French club travel away to Hoffenheim tonight in what looks to be a tough test for them. With City looking like they have a good chance to pick up three points, after the games have finished tonight the table could have a more familiar look to it, with City sitting at the top of the pile.

There is certainly no panic amongst the City camp, or any reason to start worrying and they do believe that eventually their class will come through and they will be able to top the group. The first game was certainly a wake up call, but it looks as though City will be able to prove that it was just a blip, and they are a team capable of going a long way in this tournament.

The bookmakers have City priced up at 4/11 to go into Ukraine and come back with three points, while their opponents Shakhtar are priced up at 15/2. Shakhtar have drawn both of their two games so far during their Champions League campaign and if you think they can get another on the board, that can be backed at 9/2. As far as the outright winner goes, their loss on the opening day has not prevented people from fancying City to go all the way and they are the current 9/2 favourites to lift the Champions League trophy in May.
