Celtic Move on Past Alashkert with Ease

Celtic comfortably made it through to the next round of the Champions League qualifying with two 3-0 victories over Alashkert. The minows simply had no response when Celtic turned on the style, and this was all too easy for Brendan Rodgers and his team. Things will get tougher for them in the next round when they face Rosenborg, but Celtic have made the group stages before, and that will be their aim again.

In the first leg of this tie, Celtic ran away with things to record a 3-0 victory away from home and wrap up the tie. On return, they won 3-0 again and did most of it with just 10 men on the field. After scoring in the 7th minute, Celtic were down to 10 men in the 11th minute but that didn't stop them from having a very comfortable night at the office. The truth is that despite having 10 men, Celtic probably should have had more, and you can only guess what the score would have been had they kept a full compliment of players on the field. The result wasn't harsh on Alashkert last night, but it could have been had Celtic had 11 men for the entire game.

All in all, it has been a comfortable two weeks for Celtic as they step up their preparations for both the latter rounds of this qualifying tournament and their Scottish league campaign. They will be expected to land the Scottish title once again, but success in Europe will be what the fans want this season.

Celtic 20/39 Favourites to Beat Rosenborg Next Week

Up next for Celtic are Rosenborg and the first leg of this tie will be played next Wednesday, with Celtic having home advantage in that. They will respect Rosenborg, a team who have been there and done it before, so they will want to take a nice lead with them to the return leg. There is  no doubt that Celtic are favourites to win the tie, but this is a team they need to respect when they are planning. Any errors they make, Rosenborg are capable of capitalising on.

Celtic are priced up at 20/39 to win the first leg at home next Wednesday, something they really need to do. They will know they more than likely need to take something with them to the return leg, while Rosenborg would love to go back home level. Should that happen then they would really fancy their chances of causing an upset, but if Celtic are in the right frame of mind, then they are very likely to take this.
