Can Chelsea and Arsenal Deliver Another Classic This Weekend?
We have seen some fantastic battles between Chelsea and Arsenal over the Premier League years and this weekend let's hope we see another. It seems every time they play each other there is a bigger picture to look out for and concentrate on. We have seen them fight it out for the league title, take each other on for a top-four spot and play out important cup games. This season both clubs have the task of finding a way back into the top four, something that guarantees Champions League football. Both have been involved in some huge Champions League nights over the past few years so to see them not even involved in the competition is a big change.
The pair have gone about a return to the top four in very different ways. Chelsea are relying on the players that are already at the club, trusting them plus a couple of newcomers to get them into a challenging position. Arsenal have decided to do things differently though, they are giving their new manager Unai Emery more time to execute his plan. Arsenal cannot compete financially with the other clubs at the top of the Premier League, so they are having to attack things a different way. Some may call this the "Tottenham way" although it is unlikely that Arsenal fans themselves would refer to their plan as simply copying the success of their nearest rivals.
Something Chelsea will have to do this season if they want the upper hand over their London rivals is to actually beat them. The pair met five times last season, and Chelsea failed to win any of those meetings. That included Community Shield and League Cup victories for Arsenal, with draws in their two games at Stamford Bridge. One positive for Chelsea is that you have to go back to 2011 to find the last Arsenal victory at Stamford Bridge. They won an eight-goal thriller 5-3, and that is not the only time we have seen goals in this fixture. It was far more one-sided but back in 2014, Chelsea won the fixture 6-0, something they would love to repeat here on Saturday.
Chelsea Odds On For Saturday Victory
The bookmakers have installed Chelsea as the 10/13 favourites to win the game on Saturday evening. Arsenal are priced up at 33/10, while the draw is 59/20. After seeing them put together a good performance in their 3-0 victory over Huddersfield last weekend, many will be backing up to back Chelsea to pick up their second league win of the season. However, remember that Arsenal went unbeaten in the five games against Chelsea last season, so be sure to approach this game with caution. Both teams have the same task this season, and this will be an early guide as to who could come out on top by the time we get to the end of the season.
