Bournemouth have made moves to shore up their defence by signing Chris Mepham from Brentford for a reported fee of around £12 million. Mepham has signed what has been described as a long term deal with his new club, although the actual details of that deal have not yet been revealed. After passing a medical on Tuesday, Mepham is now a Bournemouth player and he will be available straight away in their next Premier League game, which is a week away.

It is no secret that Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has been a long term admirer of Mepham, and over the past couple of transfer windows, speculation about him signing for Bournemouth has been strong. Now, it seems as though Howe has got his man. Mepham has gone from strength to strength this season, starting over 20 games for Brentford and also picking up four international caps for Wales.

At just 21 year old, there is a lot more to come from this exciting youngster, who is naturally a centre half but can also play at right back if needed. That versatility may be what gets him into the Bournemouth team to begin with but if he continues to improve as he has done over the past couple of years then there is no doubt that he could turn into a starting centre half for The Cherries in the Premier League.

With the FA Cup this weekend, Bournemouth have a week away from Premier League action and their next game in that competition comes next Wednesday. It certainly won't be an easy one, with Chelsea visiting Dean Court next Wednesday. Bournemouth are available at 9/2 to win that game, one in which we may see Chris Mepham come off the bench, while Chelsea are the strong 13/20 odds on favourites to take all three points.
