For many years, Sheffield Wednesday have held the keys to Sheffield over their city rivals United, but things looks as though they are about to change. The two teams meet at Bramall Lane on Friday night for their first meeting of the season, and going into it, Sheffield United are well ahead of Wednesday in the league standings. In their first season back in the Championship last season, United drew at home to Wednesday, before winning the game at Hillsborough.

This season at times United have been sat at the top of the table and going into the game this weekend they are in 3rd position. They have slowly built up their squad, focusing on key areas and bringing in players to fill those voids. The same cannot be said for Sheffield Wednesday, who are really struggling right now and come into the game down in 17th position and on the back of four consecutive defeats.

It is fair to say that form always goes out of the window when it comes to big local derbies like this one, but should Sheffield United win on Friday night then it they are clearly dominating the city right now. They have taken a far different approach than the one taken by Wednesday in their bid for the Premier League, but United clearly have a working plan right now and they will want to keep that going for as long as possible.

The big game on Friday night will mean a huge amount to many people, like any other big city derby up and down the country. United will be expected to win the game by many people, especially with the recent form Wednesday are showing and they are priced up as the 1/2 favourites to take all three points. Wednesday are as big as 11/2, they haven't been that price to beat United for a long time, and the draw is priced up at 10/3.
