‘Barkley could be sold’ says Ronald Koeman
Everton manager Ronald Koeman has made it clear that the club will look to sell Ross Barkley in the summer if he does not sign a new deal.
The England internationals contract expires in 2018 and Everton will sell him this summer if he does not sign a new deal before then. The way the board at Everton see it is that would rather get something for the player, then see him walk away on a free when his contract expires come the end of the season.
Ronald Koeman took to the media after his side's 4-2 win over Leicester, having this to say on the matter: ‘We offer him a new contract, and then there are two possibilities.’
‘One, he signs that contract, if he doesn’t sign that contract then we need to sell the player. It’s simple - it’s not so difficult in my opinion.’
‘We try to keep the best players. We spoke a lot about Ross (Barkley) and Rom (Romelu Lukaku) because they are really important.’
‘Most of the time the quality of the players can be the difference between Everton and the opponent and they played really well.’
Both players mentioned by Koeman after the game played huge parts in the side's victory. Romelu Lukaku scored twice in the match taking his tally to 23 for the season, four more than any other player.
Ross Barkley wasn’t able to get on the score sheet in the match, but did play an important part in the team's win.
There is no doubt that Ross Barkley and Romelu Lukaku are huge players to Everton and players they will not want to lose. However, with both players having their hearts set on playing in the Champions League, they will be keen to push through a move to a big European club this summer.
