Australian Open Day Nine proved to be another day with upsets as Grigor Dimitrov was knocked out from the quarter-finals following a 1-3 loss at the hands of Kyle Edmund. The British player continued his remarkable run at the Aussie Open and he will now face either Rafael Nadal or Marin Cilic in the last four. He became the first British man other than Murray to make the Semi-finals in Melbourne since John Lloyd in 1977 and only the fourth in the Open era.

As for the women, Elise Mertens continued her spectacular form at the Aussie Open to trash Elina Svitolina in the quarter-finals and to book her place in the Semi-finals. Mertens needed just 73 minutes to beat Svitolina 6-4, 6-0, which was the first time when the Belgian player has beaten a top-five seeded. Mertens is the first Belgian to reach a Grand Slam Semi-final since Kirsten Flipkens at Wimbledon four years ago.

Tennys Sandgren v Hyeon Chung betting tips and predictions

ATP Australian Open 2018 Quarter-finals

Kick-off: 02:00 UK time

Two of the biggest surprises of the ATP Australian Open 2018 will square off on Monday night, as Tennys Sandgren takes on Hyeon Chung in the quarter-finals.

Tennys Sandgren looked poor in the first two weeks of the new year, but his performance at the Australian Open have been excellent. Sandgren kicked off the tournament with a 3-0 win over Chardy and then followed that up with an impressive 3-0 victory against Stan Wawrinka. He then beat Marterer in the third round before winning 2-3 against Dominic Thiem yesterday. He became just the second man to make the quarter-finals on his debut at the Aussie.

Meanwhile, Hyeon Chung have won seven of his nine games on the hard surface in this early part of the year. He was eliminated from the quarter-finals of the Auckland tournament by David Ferrer, but started the Aussie Open in an incredible manner. Chung beat the likes of Mischa Zverev and Medvedev in the first two rounds here in Melbourne, without dropping a single set in the process. He then followed this up with a narrow 3-2 win over Alexander Zverev in the third round and managed an incredible victory against his idol Novak Djokovic yesterday. Chung looked incredibly solid against Djokovic on Monday and he should be able to pick up another win here.

Chung recently beat Sandgren 2-1 at Auckland and we fancy him to pick up another win here.

Tomas Berdych v Roger Federer betting predictions and tips

ATP Australian Open 2018 Quarter-finals

Kick-off: 08:30 UK time

The defending champion Roger Federer will take on Tomas Berdych on Wednesday morning in the quarter-finals of the Australian Open.

Tomas Berdych started the year with an unexpected 1-2 loss against Struff in the opening round of the Doha tournament, but he looked completely different here in Melbourne. Berdych had two easy fixtures against De Minaur and Garcia Lopez in the first two rounds, but despite the poor opponents he dropped a set against each of them. However, he looked much better of late, having won against Del Potro and Fognini in the last two rounds, without dropping a single set in the process. The bad news is that Berdych’s last victory against Federer was in 2013 at Dubai.

Roger Federer, on the other hand, is currently on an eight-game winning streak on the hard surface since a 1-2 loss against David Goffin at the ATP London Finals back in the middle of November 2017. Roger Federer have won each of his four matches at the Hopman Cup, dropping a set just against Alexander Zverev. He kicked off the Aussie Open in a splendid manner as he is yet to drop a single set after four games. During this run, he managed victories against the likes of Bedene, Struff, Gasquet and Fucsovics. In addition, Roger have only dropped two sets in his last eight meetings with Berdych across all surfaces.

Both players have been in strong shape of late so we don’t expect such a comfortable victory for Federer here.

Betting predictions and tips: Over 37.5 games at odds 17/20

Angelique Kerber v Madison Keys betting odds

WTA Australian Open 2018 Quarter-finals

Kick-off: 00:00 midnight UK time

Angelique Kerber have had a tremendous start to the year, having won each of her 13 games on the hard surface. Kerber have won all four games at the Hopman Cup and then won the Sydney tournament following a 0-2 win against Barty in the final round. Here in Melbourne, Kerber beat the likes of Friedsam, Vekic and Sharapova in the first three rounds without dropping a single set. Yesterday, she dropped her first set of the tournament as she beat Shieh S-W 1-2.

Meanwhile, Madison Keys have struggled towards the end of 2017 and in her first game of 2018, but she looked excellent here in Melbourne. Keys have won all four games so far without dropping a single set in the process. However, she haven’t met any solid opponents so far, so this clash against Kerber will be the real test. The bad news is that Madison Keys have lost her last four meetings with Kerber, three of these on hard.

Kerber have won the most recent three meetings with Keys without dropping a single set, so we expect her to pick up another comfortable win here.

Betting predictions and tips: Asian Handicap -2.5 games on Angelique Kerber

Simona Halep v Karolina Pliskova betting tips and odds

WTA Australian Open 2018 Quarter-finals

Kick-off: 04:00 UK time

Simona Halep is currently on an eleven-game winning streak on the hard surface, losing just three sets in this term. She have won the Shenzhen tournament a fortnight ago and carried out her form into the Australian Open as well. She beat the likes of Aiava, Bouchard, Davis and Osaka so far, although she had a four-hour game against Davis, with the decider set ending 15-13. Furthermore, Halep have won four of her last five meetings with Pliskova on both hard and clay surfaces.

Meanwhile, Karolina Pliskova lost 2-0 against Svitolina in the third round of the Brisbane tournament, but bounced back with four consecutive wins here in Melbourne. She managed three 2-0 victories in a row against Cepede, Haddad Maia and Safarova before winning 2-1 against Strycova yesterday. Pliskova have only won one set in her last three meetings with Halep.

Simona Halep is the in-form player here and she also hold the better head-to-head record, so we fancy her to win here.
