The Australian Open Day Eight have proved to be a nightmare for both Novak Djokovic and Dominic Thiem as both have been knocked out from the tournament. Hyeon Chung defeated his idol Novak Djokovic in straight sets 7-6, 7-5, 7-6 in an entertaining affair at Rod Laver Arena. Chung, who beat Alexander Zverev in the third round, looked incredibly solid against a Djoko, who fought through an elbow niggle throughout the match. Chung now became the first Korean to make a Grand Slam quarter-final and will take on Tennys Sandgren in the next round.

Tennys Sandgren have also produced a surprise on Day Eight, as he pulled off a victory in five sets against 5th seeded Dominic Thiem. Sandgren became just the second man to make the quarter-finals on his debut at the Australian Open.

We have already done a preview for the Australian Open 2018, which includes our outright winner's predictions, tips and odds, but we are also looking to cover each day of the tournament and bring you the best tips and value of the day.

Here are our best tips and predictions for the Australian Open 2018 day Nine:

Grigor Dimitrov v Kyle Edmund betting tips and predictions

ATP Australian Open 2018 Quarter-finals

Kick-off: 03:30 UK time

Grigor Dimitrov will take on Kyle Edmund in the first match of the Australian Open 2018 quarter-finals on Monday.

Grigor Dimitrov have won the ATP Finals in London towards the end of 2017 following a 2-1 victory over David Goffin in the final round. He started 2018 with back-to-back wins over Millman and Edmund at Brisbane before losing against Kyrgios in the Semi-finals. Here in Melbourne, the Bulgarian player beat Novak 3-0 in the opening round, but then he had some difficult matches. He managed to beat McDonald 3-2 in the second round and followed this up with a 3-1 victory over Rublev in the third one. However, Dimitrov looked very solid against Nick Kyrgios yesterday, beating the Australian 3-1 (three tie-breaks).

Kyle Edmund, on the other hand, have won six of his seven games on hard surface this year. He lost against Dimitrov in the quarter-finals of the Brisbane tournament two weeks ago, but looked incredibly solid here in Melbourne. He kicked off the Aussie with a creditable 2-3 win over Kevin Anderson and then picked up wins against Istomin, Basilashvili and Seppi. He did well to win all his four games in Melbourne so far, but he dropped five sets in this term. In addition, Edmund has lost his both meetings with Dimitrov on the hard surface, but the good news is that he managed to win a set in both of these.

Both meetings between these two players have been tough matches, so we expect another high-scoring affair here.

Rafael Nadal v Marin Cilic betting predictions and tips

ATP Australian Open 2018 Quarter-finals

Kick-off: 08:00 UK time

Rafael Nadal will take on Marin Cilic on Tuesday morning, with both sides looking for a spot in the Semi-finals of the Aussie Open.

The World No.1 Rafael Nadal had an excellent season last year, but he started to struggle with injuries towards the end of the year. He started 2018 with an unexpected 0-2 loss against Gasquet in an exhibition match at Kooyong, but he looked impeccable here in Melbourne. The Spaniard beat Estrella, Mayer and Dzumhur in the first three rounds, without dropping a single set in the process. Rafa dropped his first set here in Melbourne yesterday when he beat Schwartzman 3-1. Rafael Nadal should feel more than confident ahead of this clash as he have won the last five meetings with Cilic on both hard and clay surfaces, dropping just one set in the process.

Meanwhile, Marin Cilic suffered an unexpected defeat against Simon in the Semi-finals of the Pune and followed this up with a 1-2 loss against Ebden in an exhibition match at Kooyong. Anyhow, Cilic got back to winning ways here in Melbourne, registering back-to-back victories over Pospisil, Sousa, Harrison and Carreno-Busta, dropping just two sets in the process. Cilic is winless in the last five meetings with Nadal and have lost his both meetings with the Spaniard in 2017, without winning a single set.

Rafael Nadal have only dropped one set in his last five meetings with Cilic and we fancy him to get another straight victory here.

Betting predictions and tips: Rafael Nadal to win 3-0 at odds 11/8 with William Hill

Elise Mertens v Elina Svitolina match odds

WTA Australian Open 2018 Quarter-finals

Kick-off: 02:00 UK time

Two of the most in-form players in the WTA circuit at the moment will square off on Monday in the Quarter-finals of the Aussie Open, with Elise Mertens facing Elina Svitolina.

Elise Mertens head into this tie on the back of an eleven-game winning streak on the hard surface. Actually, she have lost just one match from 12 this year. Mertens have won the Hobart tournament a week ago following a 1-2 victory against Buzarnescu in the final round. Mertens started the Australian Open strongly, beating the likes of Kuzmova, Gavrilova, Cornet and Martic without dropping a single set in the process. The only bad news is that Mertens have lost her sole meeting with Svitolina, without winning a single set in the process.

On the other hand, Elina Svitolina have also enjoyed a terrific run of form of late, having won ten consecutive games in a row. The Ukrainian won the tournament in Brisbane following a 0-2 win against Sasnovich in the final round. She have dropped just one set in Brisbane and kicked off the Aussie Open in a same strong manner. Actually, Svitolina dropped just seven games in her last two matches at the Aussie Open.

Svitolina have more quality than Mertens in my eyes, and despite the Belgian’s great run of form of late, I still back Svitolina to pick up a straight win here.

Betting predictions and tips: Elina Svitolina to win 2-0 at odds 4/5 with William Hill

Carla Suarez-Navarro v Caroline Wozniacki

WTA Australian Open 2018 Quarter-finals

Kick-off: 09:30 UK time

The World No.2 Caroline Wozniacki will take on Carla Suarez-Navarro on Tuesday morning, with both players looking for a spot in the Semifinals of the Aussie Open 2018.

Carla Suarez-Navarro have endured a terrible run of form towards 2017, losing six consecutive games in a row. However, she got back to winning ways here in Melbourne, registering four consecutive victories and dropping three sets in the process. She managed to beat some solid opponents during this run in the likes of Babos, Kanepi and Kontaveit. Carla was winless in four meetings with Wozniacki on the hard and clay surface before winning 2-1 in her most recent match against the Danish.

Caroline Wozniacki, on the other hand, did well to win the WTA Finals towards the end of 2017 and kicked off the new year in a similar manner. She have reached the final at Auckland where she lost 0-2 at the hands of Goerges. However, the Danish got back to winning ways here in Melbourne, recording back-to-back victories over Buzarnescu, Fett, Bertens and Rybarikova. She has only dropped one set against Fett during this run and she looked incredibly solid in her most recent wins against Bertens and Rybarikova. Wozniacki should feel confident ahead of this clash, as she managed to beat Suarez Navarro in all her three meetings on the hard surface with the Spaniard.

Caroline Wozniacki hold the better head-to-head record in this tie and we fancy her to secure a comfortable victory here.

Betting predictions and tips: Asian Handicap -5.5 games on Caroline Wozniacki at odds 10/11 with William Hill
