Anthony Joshua v Kubrat Pulev In Cardiff
This morning the next chapter in the Anthony Joshua journey was confirmed. The WBA and IBF heavyweight champion will defend both belts, against Kubrat Pulev at the Principality Stadium on the 28th October live on Sky Sports Box Office. Anthony Joshua returns to the ring for the first time, since his epic battle with the former unified heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko. The pair broke all boxing record in front 90,000 fans at a sold out Wembley Stadium in April, where Joshua stopped the former champion in a fight that will be remembered for years. Kubrat Pulev has been the IBF mandatory challenger for over a year, and will finally get his shot at the championship on the 28th October. You can check out our Anthony Joshua free bets here.
Joshua v Pulev will be fought in front of 80,000 people at the Millennium Stadium. Anthony Joshua has made it clear that he wants to fight on all four continents of the globe. This fight against Kubrat Pulev could just be the start of world domination for the British heavyweight champion. "October 28 can't come soon enough," said Joshua. "I have been eager to get back in the ring since Wembley, and now we are confirmed and ready.
"I'll be locked away focusing on fight number 20 for the next eight weeks. I am excited to experience the atmosphere in a sold out Principality Stadium and aim to give the fans a spectacular night."
This will be Pulev’s second crack at a world title, as the Bulgarian was beaten in 2014 by Wladimir Klitschko. Pulev was stopped in the fifth round by Klitschko, but since then Pulev has won his last five fight forcing his way back into contention. "Anthony is a formidable opponent. We will not hug and hold, we will not run; we will stand and fight. His style fits mine perfectly and in boxing, styles make fights.
"My preparation will be very intense, and I will be perfectly ready when I enter the ring so that he will have no chance to beat me."
This mornings press conferences ended months of speculation, about who Anthony Joshua would fight next. For weeks after the fight with Wladimir Klitschko, a rematch was being talked about as there was a clause in the contracts. So much so that Eddie Hearn and Matchroom had been to Las Vegas to look over the T-Mobile arena, and a Wembley rematch in Vegas looked very much on the cards. Until last month when Wladimir Klitschko decided that he couldn’t put his body through camp again, and announced his retirement from Boxing. Promoter Eddie Hearn added at this morning's press conference "I'm delighted that we will be in Cardiff at the magnificent Principality Stadium for the next step of the AJ journey. Nearly 80,000 will gather on October 28 to create another unforgettable night of boxing.
"Anthony will meet his mandatory challenger, No 1 ranked Kubrat Pulev, and the card will be stacked with world championship action, domestic title fights and the very best young stars in the game. Get ready for the next episode from the biggest star in world boxing."
