Wolverhampton Wanderers v Reading, Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Tuesday evening (19:45) fixture is a re-arranged game from a few weeks ago that was postponed because of the weather. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Wolves will be looking to bounce back after a comprehensive 4-1 road defeat at Aston Villa on Saturday. The result was more down to Villa being more clinical in front of goal as the expected goals data shows the hosts only just shading the match.

Reading battled out a 2-2 draw at home to Leeds in their last fixture in a game that they were a little lucky to get a point from. Jon Dadhi Bodhvarsson and an own-goal enabled the Royals to continue their recent drawing trend.

The reverse fixture came in mid-October and ended 2-0 to the visitors from the Black Country thanks to a goal each from Ivan Cavaleiro and Matt Doherty. It means that Wanderers have won three of the last five between the sides.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Wolves are the short-priced favourites to win this but I think you can get a bit more value by combining a couple of markets. If you take Wolves to win and both teams to score this makes a lot more sense with the Wanderers defence not quite looking as strong in recent weeks shipping at least once in their last six while Reading have seen both teams score in eight of their last 11 on the road. Also, just have a simple bet on both teams to score for the reasons listed above.

YES both teams to score

Wolves to win the game and both teams to score

Wolverhampton Wanderers Preview

The Black Country outfit have won just one of their last five in the league which has allowed the chasing pack to close them.  They are now just three ahead of Cardiff having played the same amount of games and just seven ahead of Villa with almost the same played.

At Molineux, they have won four of their last six but did draw last time at their own ground when Norwich picked up a point.  The last three and four of their last five in front of their own fans have gone over 2.5 goals.

Wolves have been ahead at half-time more than any other side in the division going into the break in front in 19 of their 36 at all ground and ten of 17 at home.  Just eight of the 18 clean sheets they have kept this season have come at home.

Wolverhampton Wanderers News

Bright Enobakhare (unknown), Joe Mason (stomach) and Phil Ofosu-Ayeh (ankle) are doubts. Carl Ikeme is a long-term absentee as he continues his fight against Leukemia.

Reading Preview

The Royals are without a victory in their last seven league games though four of their last five have finished all-square.  They sit just six points above the bottom three and three of their next four are away against teams in the top 14.

Away from the Madejski Stadium, it has been just one victory from their last seven with three of the last five ending in a draw.  Both teams to score is a common feature with four of their last five and eight of their last 11 on their travels seeing this.

Mo Barrow and Jon Dadhi Bodhvarsson both have two goals from their last four while Omar Richards has two in his last five.  In four of their last five against their opponents here Reading have failed to find the back of the net.

Reading News

Chris Martin (illness), Axel Andresson (ankle), Yann Kermorgant, and Omar Richards (both calf), Callum Harriott, Paul McShane (both hamstring), Tommy Elphick, Joe Mendez and Stephen Quinn (all knee) are doubts. Jordan Obita (ligament) and Gareth McCleary (broken ankle) are out for the remainder of the season.
